"We identify 9 global 'core' tipping elements which contribute substantially to Earth system functioning & 7 regional 'impact' tipping elements which contribute substantially to human welfare or have great value..."

2/ "... as unique features of the Earth system. Current global warming of ~1.1°C above pre-industrial already lies w/in the lower end of five CTP (#Climate Tipping Point) uncertainty ranges. Six CTPs become likely w/in the #parisagreement range of 1.5 to <2°C warming..."

3/ "...including collapse of the #Greenland & West #Antarctic ice sheets, die-off of low-latitude coral reefs, & widespread abrupt #permafrost thaw. An additional CTP likely & another 3 possible at the ~2.6°C of warming expected under current policies." science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
4/ The bottom line: The world govts are failing to meet #parisagreement 1.5 C limits on #GlobalWarming rise due to fossil fuels. But even that target may not avoid calamitous changes across the planet as ecosystems hit bio and chemical tipping points to total failure.

Russian "accident" rate rises:
The Corp for Devel of the Far East & Arctic (KRDV) announced the 'tragic death' of its managing director, Ivan Pechorin, who drowned after 'falling off a boat' during 'a pleasure trip' w/friends.
2/ His body later washed ashore on Russky Island in the Sea of Japan. Pechorin is at least the 9th high-profile Russ businessman to die unexpectedly since January, reportedly in accidents or by suicide. MORE businessinsider.com/russian-execut…
3/ Pechorin is the 2nd KRDV exec to die "unexpectedly" this year. In Feb, KRDV announced the death of its genl director Igor Nosov, age 43, of "a stroke."
Other deaths:
- Ravik Maganov, chair of the board of Lukoil, "fell" from a hospital window.

The annual @NOAA State of the #climate report is just out, based on 2021 data. And it's gut-wrenching. climate.gov/news-features/…
Everything is going the wrong way, rapidly. Greenhouse gas emissions are soaring...

2/ Despite what should have been a cooling caused by the Pacific La Nina event, 2021 was a hot one -- one of the 6 hottest ever recorded. #GlobalWarming#ClimateEmergency

3/ The oceans in 2021 hit record heat levels, especially near the Poles. Hotter seas can't produce winter ice, so the oceanic system is unable to compensate for ice cap summer melting. #GlobalWarming#ClimateCrisis

On Aug10, 1776 the Declaration of Independence reached London. The 🇬🇧King was not amused. On this day, 8/22/1776, the largest armada ever, with more than 90 ships, lined up along Brooklyn shores, aiming a then-historic # of ship cannon. foxnews.com/lifestyle/this…

Here in Brooklyn we celebrate the Battle, even though Washington & rebel army beat a retreat. If the 15,000 Brit + Hessian soldiers, 5 War Ships and remaining armada had slaughtered the rebels & captured Gen. Washington, we'd all have British accents today & wave the Union Jack🇬🇧
The Brit/Hessian landing force entered Brooklyn near today's Verrazano Bridge. Dutch families betrayed the American rebels, guiding Red Coats to attack positions. Brave 400 rebels from MD & Del sacrificed in battle, giving Washington & the main rebel forces a chance to escape.
The @theNASEM is holding an all day session now on airborne transmission of #COVID19 & other microbes.
Don Milton says @theNASEM that #SARSCoV2 is "evolving towards better aerosol transmission" between people.
So far tyhe big take-home message @theNASEM mtg on airborne spread of #SARASCoV2 is that we need to improve spaces, not people/mask wearing. And very exciting findings on ways to ventillate and scrub air are presented.
Greenland
I was there in 2019 when record heat caused the island to lose more than 530 billion tons from its ice sheet -- the largest annual loss since record-keeping began in 1948.

2/ Two things are happening: old ice is melting, never to be replenished, pushing rising sea levels. And new sea ice is failing to form at historic levels. While eyes have been on Europe's soaring heat, it's been HOT over the North Pole & pts of #Greenland , too.
MORE
3/ So far, #Greenland looks on track to see more melting of it's ice sheet than occurred with record-breaker 2019 summer. This is #GlobalWarming planet-wide impact, as fresh water pours into salty seas, altering ocean chemistry & temperatures.
