SitRep - 17/10 - "Another wave of drones"

A daily overview of the events in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Since there is still an OPSEC BLACKOUT, we zoom in on general events but also look at the current situation at multiple fronts without too much details.

Like usual we start with Russian losses. The daily attacks with mostly kamikaze drones can be seen in the sharp uptake in destroyed UAV's. In the next tweet we analyse the amount of drones lost.

This morning a total of 37 Shahed-136 kamikaze drones were already shot down in less then 13 hours. Today 8 more were shot down, making a total of 45 drones shot down in 24 hours.

Despite the successrate of destroyed drones, there are still drones slipping trough the airdefenses. This morning #Kyiv but also #Vinnytsia and #Odesa were subject to attacks. Even locals tried to help shoot them down. Again civilian buildings were hit.

I think this is one of the most telling photo's of the whole war until now. "Why?"

Yesterday a fire was seen in #Mykolaiv after kamikaze-drones attacks. Later it became clear it were sunflower tanks that were hit. Flooding the city of Mykolaiv with sunflower oil. Pure terrorism, no military target whatsoever.

In response to all the kamikaze-madness coming from Iranian (!) supplied drones, Ukrainian weapon manufacturer Ukroboronprom announced a response weapon.

Yesterday i told you all that #Belarus is sending material to Russia in exchange for defense, but now also offensive weaponry arrived in Belarus for a so called 'joint group exercise'. I hope Lukashenko is really not that stupid.

In the Russian city of Yeysk a military airplane crashed into a civilian building. The pilots ejected, but a major fire broke out at the crash site.

This evening another wave of Shahed-136 drones appeared above the skies in #Kyiv district. Explosions were recorded in Bila Tserkva and Brovary suburb. We haven't seen any damage material yet, so likely these were shot down.

Today great news appeared about the return of 108 women in service of the AFU. Among them are evacuees from Azovstal, 11 officers and 85 privates and sergeants.

Kherson - "Silence"

❓ Everyone asks: what is happening here? Given that 🇷🇺 is preparing for evacuation, an offensive is likely. AFU 🇺🇦 build-up is reported in #Mykolaiv. Meanwhile AFU keeps pressuring the whole front

Bakhmut - "Toughest frontline"

➡️Shelling reported in Soledar, Bakhmuts'ke, Bakhmut and Mayorske.
➡️🇷🇺 reportedly assigned 2 extra BTGs to force a breaktrough
➡️AFU 🇺🇦✊ forces hold their positions.

➡️AFU 🇺🇦 defense made up by the 58th Independent Motorized Infantry Brigade , 30th and 93rd Mechanized Brigades and 80th Air Brigade.

The battlefield is difficult, 🇷🇺 has allocated extra tank batallions, motor rifle/air assault brigades spearheaded by recently added PMC Wagners.

Kreminna - "Silence, and repel"

➡️🇷🇺shelled Terny, Yampolivka, Tors'ke, Zarichne
➡️Still no visual proof of 🇷🇺 recapturing Chervona Dibrova. I consider it 🇺🇦
➡️Contested area might be wider towards Terny
➡️🇷🇺 attacked 🇺🇦 N/NW of Kreminna and retreated

Kupyansk-Svatove - "Pressure continues"

➡️🇷🇺 shelled Berestove, Petropavlivka, Pershotravneve,Hrekivka and Novoyehorivka.
➡️Raihodorodka, Kovalivka & Novodyane are considered 🇺🇦 given repetative 🇷🇺 shelling
➡️Unconfirmed reports of a 🇷🇺 counterattack at Kyslivka
➡️P07 for 75% 🇺🇦
