I pointed out yesterday that if #Ukrainian claims are true, #Russia is losing a brigade's worth of troops a day now. 800-1000 dead and x2 (my estimate based on shitty Russian medical support) wounded, missing, captured and deserted. This will add up to about a corps's worth
of troops removed from the Russian OOB every 10-15 days. That is not sustainable not even if many of the troops are in fact (and likely) dragooned Ukrainians. Russia set out to mobilize 300,000 men. The current loss rate will exhaust that cadre by December. Given how poorly the
first mobilization went, the chances of a second are poor. The next wave of reinforcements Russia can look forward too is the spring cadre of kids reaching their majority and subject to conscription. There is some room here if Russia can find some efficiency they could increase
the haul of young men forced into uniform. Combing out of prisons and forced conscription of foreigners and marginalized groups is likely continuing and will not stop until all the jails are empty and Russia's homeless problem is extinguished. The body count though is only part
problem. Russia is also running out of equipment. refitting T-62's, bumming ammo, tanks and drones off Iran, Belarus and North Korea all say Russia is choking to death on the bite it tried to take out of Ukraine. They are trying to eat an elephant with a spoon. The problem for
empires that decide to have pachyderm for dinner is it invites others to challenge. We have been seeing this for awhile as Lukashenko and Tokayev chart paths that if not free from Russia are much less tightly defined by Russian interests and goals. We saw more of it when
Azerbaijan decided now was a good time to wage war against Russia's ally Armenia. Now we have our first direct challenge. Russia tried to pull of the Black Sea Grain Initiative and Turkey said no and Russia had to meekly submit to Turkish desires. Putin was reduced to begging
Ukraine to stop sinking its battleships. Of note Putin did not declare the #BlackSeaFleet out of the war. He still wants to murder Ukrainians, he just doesn't like comes around goes around part of it. All of it though: his army foundering, his vassals going off script,
surrendering de facto control of the #BlackSea to Turkey all say that even if the Russian Empire is not yet collapsing, the Russian Imperial order in its near abroad is. This has happened before. After WWI Russia lost Poland, Ukraine, The Baltics, Moldavia, Finland and parts of
Asia. They got much of it back at least for awhile but in 91 there was another general collapse of the Russian imperial order. Putin's life work has been directed towards two goals" physically reforming the Russian Empire where he could, and imposing a Russian Imperial order over
the Russian near abroad. Diplomacy, disruptive colonies and "peoples" republics, graft and corruption but also violence and war if all else failed. Well its failing and now Putin is faced with a now what. The biggest threat to Russia's current borders are not external but
internal pressures. Colonized people can be very loyal to the empire. Just ask the Brits who relied on troops from India and Pakistan during two world wars. Or France and Germany for that matter. You might even claim that native American and Black troops who fought for the US
fall into this category. The British and French examples though show the warning. As soon as the colonial troops lose faith in the imperial system nationalist and separatist tendencies will emerge. I think this is one of the next big shoes to drop. Kadyrov is already punching
up so who knows what kind of ambitions or internal polling he has but there are how many ethnic groups in Russia? Many, none of them treated well and all of them are just a bit of imperial weakness away from at least thinking that this might be their moment to throw off the yoke.
How do we help this along? Proceeding from the assumption that empire is bad and that people deserve self-determination how do we hasten the end of the world's oldest colonial empire? The obvious answer is by making sure it cannot grow larger. Support for Ukraine both by western
or direct giving to Ukrainians running their own fund raising efforts like @Teoyaomiquu. The more Russia sinks in the quagmire that is Ukraine the faster her enslaved will reach the boiling point and say enough is enough. Now I get that a lot of talking heads don't want that.
Think tank types that are hostile to Russia and Kleptogradian stooges that would like nothing better than a Russian victory will likely be aligned on the issue of keep Russia Russian. Both are likely to be vocal and trying to sway opinion and this could directly impact support
for Ukraine. Stay informed and stay alert. One place where you will not be fed any BS about needing to keep the empire whole is on @MriyaReport / mriyareport.org Everyone one of us there is a true anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist.
This morning I wake up to Medvedev claiming Russia is fighting Satan. I think the translation forgot the word "with" in there somewhere. I jest but not really, but the whole the "west" is Satan/satanism trope is actually kinda cool for a history lover like myself. I mean ever
since 9-11 we kind of expect calls to holy war from the most radical parts of Sunni Islam. The Shia Clerics in Iran have been saying it since I was a child, but for an at least semi-European state to say it: woo doggy. There is some history there.
When the Fins for example were the Swede's favorite shock troops there used to be a Russian prayer that translated as basically, " Dear God, save us from the Terrible Finns". Now how did a duchy 900km from Karelia learn to fear the Finns? Because The Blob was already expanding.
Hubris, such an interesting word, and something we are all subject to fall victim too. famously there is Russia's hubris that they could take Kyiv in 3 days.... America laughed in "Afghani" at that one. Both Russia and America fell into the same trap. How do you beat a people who
don't want to be beaten. The US tried propping up existing tribal structures and singing kumbaya with high explosive chorus. We all saw how that went. Russia has been trying a much more ancient approach. A combination of kill the #Ukrainians by the bushel load, use mass rape,
looting, and destruction to turn the land in to wasteland, and mass deportation and destruction of cultural touch stones to pour acid on the whole idea of #Ukraine as something distinct from the empire. Months ago, I wrote an essay pointing out that the #GenocideOfUkrainians is
How many of you have seen Putin, his cronies, trolls or useful idiots talking about a multi-polar world where every nation is free to chart its own course free from western domination? Its all hogwash, that is not what he wants. He wants a unipolar world where Russia sits at the
top free to do as it will to anyone, imposing its will, charting their course for them, wiping them out if they resist. There is no part of Russia's foreign policy that says multi-polar via its actions. Putin's only goals have been rebuilding the Russian Empire and making sure he
sat at its head. The true multi-polar world is the one we are witnessing rally to Ukraine. Severla big players like India and China have taking an almost malignant disinterest. Others like Germany and Turkey are trying to play towards the middle to varying degrees. The Votes in
I woke up to more news about Russian missile strikes on civilian targets in Ukraine. This of course is the norm but given that Russia has announced its intent to blockade world food supplies again, the never-ending energy blackmail and the hubris in calling the strike on the
#BlackSeaFleet a terror attack its obvious that Russia really thinks she can cuck the world. Putin is running around talking peaceful co-existence of religions and cultures out of one side of his mouth and oppressing Ukraine and killing Ukrainians out of another. The UN has
to be worthless, with Russia holding two vetoes it is never going to get off its ass and defend the right of self determination for all nations and it will not oppose the #GenocideOfUkrainians unleashed by #russiaisateroriststate. Its just not going to happen. If NATO doesn't
Let me see if I get this right. For 9 months the #Russian Navy's #BlackSeaFleet has been a primary element of terror attacks on #Ukrainian cities, power stations and transportation nets with the express goal of causing as much death and harm to Ukrainian civilians as possible.
#Ukraine conducts an anti-terror operation and damages and possibly sinks some of the #BSF and Russia calls that the terror attack. I should not be surprised they did the same thing with the Kerch Bridge and other events. Seems the Russian language does not have the phrase for
"jumping the shark". Russia's other response was to announce it is pulling out of the #BlackSeaGrainInitiative which is something they have been signaling for weeks. When push comes to shove feeding the world is not even on the radar. Famine is just another terror weapon in the
and the posts by @CovertShores and others have more videos showing both Russian SAM's flying and an Mi24/35 dropping ordnance on the sea. Now both SAM's and helos can be "all show no go" but it could also mean a multi-domain attack on the BSF,
In particular that the city murdering terrorship Admiral Makarov may have been hit. This ship has been reported hit multiple times so I am wary, but man I want it too be true. This ship's only function is the infliction of terror on the Ukrainian population. It is crewed by
