For those debating whether or not to leave Twitter, the alternatives aren't great and the user experience won't be the same on other platforms without the people you follow (and who follow you).

Consider these measures ...

1) Take a break from tweeting if it gets too much, but DON'T delete your account.

Elmo's fuckery may be short-lived once he realizes advertisers won't allow him to take them hostage --

And there's ZERO accountability if everyone leaves en masse;

2) If you do take an extended break and/or join other platforms, replace your background photo with where friends and followers can find you --

3) Review any optional public and private info you've provided on your Twitter profile -- consider deleting some of it and be mindful of anything you share via DM 👇

4) Do NOT be goaded into paying for verification under any circumstances. This should (and must) remain free to prevent abuse and impersonation.

Charging fees for enhanced features, or access to other bells and whistles, is a completely separate (and reasonable) issue.

6) Follow back accounts you like that you don't currently follow -- especially ones that are verified that might soon be impersonated by fake accounts that paid to be verified.
