The only light of the night came from the moon and stars shining in the sky. The protagonist wandered aimlessly through the forest, consumed by rage and despondency. He was expelled from his kingdom for an offence he never committed: theft.

"Good morning, traveller," the merchant greeted with a warm smile. "Why have you come to our kingdom?"

The protagonist lied, "I'm just passing through," to avoid revealing the truth about his past.

"Then you've arrived at the proper location," the merchant said, gesturing around him. "This is the Kingdom of Arden, one of the most populous and prosperous in all of the land. Here, you will find nobles, bishops, princesses, and princes.

The main character could not believe his ears. This kingdom was exactly what he needed - a place where he could start over, find employment, and perhaps even establish his reputation. He felt hope for the first time in a very long time.
