1) In Jan, Compared to last year, there is a 16.1% increase in price of cereals, 21% in spices, while the price of vegetables decreased by 11.7%.

2) Additionally, health services became 6.36% more expensive, and clothing and footwear saw a price hike of 9.08%.

3) The state of Chhattisgarh experienced the lowest inflation among all Indian states, with a rate of 2.87%.

Meanwhile, Telangana had the highest inflation rate of 8.58%.

5) CPI, or Consumer Price Index, is the term used in India to refer to retail inflation.

It measures the average price changes of goods and services, including vegetables, fruits, and other household essentials, consumed by Indian households over a period of time

6) The calculation of CPI involves considering a basket of items from various categories such as food, clothing, housing, fuel, health, and others.

Each item in the basket is assigned a weight based on its relative importance in household consumption.

7) The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) calculates the CPI every month.

Field staff collects price data from 1,114 urban markets and 1,181 villages across all states and union territories on a monthly basis.
