DISCLAIMER!!! READ THIS!!! SERIOUSLY!!! AND DON'T JUST READ IT - INJEST IT!!!

The following story outline is both FICTION and FAN FICTION!

None of these events happened... these are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS...
cont.
Not only is it fictional, it is PURELY speculative on my part!
Someone asked me once, "How would the whole Jenny/Brad/Sheldon thing work out if @RobRenzetti let you run with it?" and what follows are the results.

So... let me be clear:

cont.
Rob hasn't read it, he hasn't approved of it, for all I know he knows nothing about it, he may read it and hate it, he may be mad at me for even doing it (please don't be mad, Rob... it was just for fun)!

Point being:

cont.
THIS DID NOT COME FROM ROB RENZETTI AND IS THEREFORE -NOT- "CANON" IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM!!!

Also...

This is MY PERSONAL "take" on the story. I may re-read this tomorrow and hate it myself.

But it doesn't matter... y'know why?

NONE OF IT IS REAL!

cont.
If you have a different story in your head, I absolutely encourage you to share it with the world! Your version has no more or less validity than mine!

In other words...

I DID THIS FOR FUN! IF IT DOESN'T MATCH WHAT YOU HAD IN YOUR HEAD, DON'T LET IT UPSET YOU!

With all of that out of the way, my heartfelt thanks to all the new followers and everyone who has joined me in my little corner of Twitter.

I try to use this platform for both fun and helpful purposes. I hope you stick around.

MY LIFE AS A TEENAGE ROBOT:

“Like Clockwork”

by John Fountain - writer, director, storyboard artist for My Life as a Teenage Robot

Jenny, Brad and Sheldon are all in their senior year of High School… the first semester has just started...

cont.
Brad is elated at the idea of being done with school. Beneath his jubilance, however, he’s torn and somewhat worried about “What’s next?” as he’s never really given it that much thought.

cont.
Sheldon, naturally, has been recruited to a prestigious college that specializes in technology advancements for the Skyway Patrol.

But Jenny is the most “unsure” of all three because, let’s face it, she was going to school merely as a social learning experience.

cont.
What does a superpowered robot do NEXT?
Amidst this, Tuck is a nervous, frantic mess as he is about to enter - GASP! - “Middle School”!!! The horror!

At graduation, the three friends are celebrating and taking pictures together, when out of nowhere...
cont.
..., Melody appears to congratulate Brad - Jenny is, of course, not the least bit happy about it.

She informs Jenny that she’s had a lot of time to do some thinking and really wants to bury the hatchet between them… Jenny wants no part of it.

cont.
She also informs Brad that now that she’s an adult, she plans on traveling the world to experience things she could never do while she was with her father and she wants to know if Brad wants to join her.

cont.
Having no other real plans, Brad ponders it and asks for some time to think about it. She gives him a week.
Over the course of the next 6 days, Brad and Jenny find themselves in one mini-adventure after another, together defeating everyone from Vexus to The Legion of Evil!
cont.
By this time in their relationship, Jenny and Brad work like a well-oiled machine together, and they defeat each foe with clockwork efficiency.

With each experience, their feelings for each other...

cont.
... - in conjunction with the changes in their lives - grow and, finally, amid the rubble of a pile of Cluster Drones, lit by the setting sun - they share their first kiss!

cont.
Sheldon, who has been witnessing this progression, starts to come to terms with the fact that, “It’s probably not gonna be me.”

Despite his disappointment, his friendship with Brad has also made it impossible for Sheldon to be bitter, but he is no less brokenhearted.

cont.
As such, Sheldon isolates himself and works around the clock on various “projects.”

Brad informs Melody that he’s found his soulmate and can’t be parted from her. Melody, sad for herself but happy for the couple, goes off to travel the world and “find herself.”

cont.
A year goes by, and in a montage we see a paradoxical romance in action…Brad and Jenny are perfect together, as long as they’re entangled in some sort of dangerous adventure - but when it comes to every day life, they find themselves less and less compatible as a couple…
cont.
...steadily growing apart.

This leads Brad to resentment - wondering “What could have been?” If he had gone away with Melody.
Jenny, feeling unfairly “blamed” for “holding him back” eventually ends the relationship and the two former friends part on bitter terms.

cont.
Despite the obvious signs that the relationship wasn’t meant to be, Jenny feels REAL heartbreak for the first time.

And she doesn’t like it.

Jenny’s mom consoles her and tells her the tale of her own first heartbreak… and the second… and the third… and the tenth.

cont.
Nora explains to Jenny that “happiness” and “sadness” are a package deal, and you don’t get some without the other.

Despite this sage advice, Jenny still finds it all terribly confusing.

cont.
Unlike her human peers, she doesn’t have 19 actual years of progressive experience with interpersonal relationships - so she is, uniquely, at a loss.

There’s only one person who seems to understand:

Sheldon.

cont.
During the year that Brad and Jenny were a couple, Sheldon was forced to abandon the idea of Jenny as a girlfriend, and - so - managed to focus on himself as a person.
He, also, dated a girl he met at a robotics engineering seminar - and they also broke up.

cont.
This experience gives Sheldon some maturity and insight… he consoles Jenny and even apologizes for his sometimes deceptive and intrusive nature in their early friendship.
With his new maturity, Jenny finds herself drawn to Sheldon in a way she never thought possible.

cont.
After weeks of the two helping each others’ broken hearts to heal, in a whirlwind of rekindled optimism, Jenny sweeps Sheldon off his feet and kisses him in the Tremorton Town’s square - witnessed by everyone.

Even the Crust cousins are warmed by the sight of it.

cont.
The two begin dating, and unlike her relationship with Brad, Jenny and Sheldon seems utterly idyllic… they work well as a team on adventures AND they mesh beautifully in everyday life, enjoying both activities as a couple as well as activities within other groups.

cont.
It seems perfect.

This goes on for a year, and while there is no one “incident” to trigger it, Sheldon begins to feel progressively confused in their relationship.

cont.
He starts to question if he was ever in love with WHO Jenny was, or was he in love with WHAT Jenny is (i.e. a super cool robot).

cont.
His inner self-doubt gnaws at him, and eventually it reaches a point where his dismay and confusion is all-consuming and eventually he does something he never could have imagined...

cont.
Sheldon breaks up with Jenny.

Jenny, of course, can’t believe it… wasn’t everything fine?! Weren’t they the perfect couple?!

At one point, Sheldon even says - with absolute sincerity - “Jenny… it’s not you… it’s me.”

cont.
Half heartbroken, half enraged, Jenny exclaims, “I’VE HAD IT!!!” And launches herself into space and isn’t heard from for many months.

Nora is, of course, sad for her daughter - but also knows that she can take care of herself.

“Is she ever coming back?” Tuck asks Dr. Wakeman…
“She may come back… but she won’t be the same,” she says.

“I was really hoping she’d help me with this ‘multiplication’ baloney.

“I think I can help you with that” Nora smiles.

cont.
One cold, winter night, Dr. Wakeman hears something on the rooftop… she looks out her bedroom window and sees Jenny sitting outside on the roof.

Nora joins her and they have a long, heartfelt talk.

cont.
“You know, Jenny… most people aren’t meant to be with the boys they met in high school forever… life is often far more complicated than any algorithm I could have programmed into you.”

cont.
Jenny reluctantly but maturely agrees. Having spent some time going from one galaxy to another, learning much in the process, she is left to admit that she’s still just a teenage robot.

cont.
“Not any more” Nora says. “By my calculations, your internal cyber-psychological mature-o-dometer flipped to all zeros at midnight.”

“What does THAT mean?” Jenny says?

“It means you’re twenty years old today. Happy birthday, Jenny”

cont.
“Thanks mom.”

They hug.

Pan up to a winter moon.

THE END

Roll credits

cont.
EPILOGUE:

Years later, there is a class reunion… Jenny, Brad and Sheldon all make eye contact from across the crowded dance floor… they meet in the middle… there is a moment of unbearable tension.

They all hug.

Cut to black.

I’m really excited about sharing this with you all…

But here’s the thing:

I’m getting a lot of comments like “You should do this” or “You should do that”…

One of the great things about working on a show like #mlaatr
Cont…
…is that it took on a life of its own.
It was a functional “reality.”

Those types of shows are the easiest to write for BECAUSE they pretty much write themselves.

Here’s what I mean…
…when I would put Jenny in any given situation, I had do have Jenny behave “AS SHE WOULD”… and not “as I want her to”!

So, when I wrote the outline, I wrote it as I thought it “must” happen… not necessarily how I “wanted” it to happen.

INTRODUCTION

Storyboarding is hard.

Really, really, REALLY hard.

Twenty-Five years ago I went in for a job interview at Klasky Csupo for a character design gig and met with Mitch Watson - a producer for their new show, “The Wild Thornberrys”.

PITCHING A CARTOON SHOW

By John Fountain

CHAPTER 8 - Post Mortem

Let’s talk about pitching a cartoon show, shall we? Image
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve tried to give you all of the practical information I have based on my experience on how to pitch a cartoon.

Not as easy as you thought, huh?

Everything I know came from trial-and-error on my part.

You will try.

You will error. Image
Don’t let it eat you up.

One of the major, emotional milestones I wish I had gotten over sooner is that - as corny as this sounds - life IS, in fact, all about the journey - not the destination. Image

PITCHING A CARTOON SHOW

CHAPTER 7 - “We’d like to see MORE!”

I’ve spent a lot of time preparing you for disappointment.

And rightfully so. The odds are undeniably stacked against you.

But - let’s say you pitched your show, everything went great, and a couple of weeks later, you get the call everyone hopes for:

“We’re interested.” Image

PITCHING A CARTOON SHOW
By John Fountain

CHAPTER 6 - Follow up

Let’s talk about pitching a cartoon show, shall we?

So... you’ve pitched your cartoon!
Congrats! Image
In many cases, you’ll have a pretty good idea what your chances look like within the first 120 seconds of your pitch.

By the time you speak the title of the show and first paragraph of your pitch, you’ll probably be able to see it on their faces. Image
Anything other than a “I love this idea!” and you’re looking at a “maybe” at best. “Interesting” is often code for “no.”

But, as I stated previously, you’re not just pitching a cartoon, you’re pitching yourself… so you need to maintain your composure no matter what. Image
