#HongKong pro-democracy veteran Albert Ho has been arrested again and had his court bail ceased. Several media reported that he may contact Andrew Chiu's family in an attempt to send a message to the defendant-turn-witness in #NSL47 case.
Chiu has always been controversial... Image
1/ You may probably know him b/c of this incident happened in Taikoo at the height of #antielab protest back in 2019.

People outside the core of #HongKong politics may sympathise with him and give subsequent recognition.

That's not quite the case for those in the field. Image
2/ Chiu was well-known for 2 things among people in #HongKong politics. 1) His questionable doctoral degree & 2) His biz dealings w/ pro-#Peking politicians.

His honourary degree is awarded by SABI university, a known diploma mill. Still, he insisted on his doctoral title. Image
3/ He had been involved in arbitration and meditation biz and knowingly w/ involvement with pro-#Peking politicians like Anna Tang of DAB.

He was VP of #HongKong Mediation Centre, co-founded by HK rep of Central People's Congress Sylvia Siu & pro-Peking lawyer Maurice Lee. Image
4/ Another point that raised eyebrows is his recognition of the mediator and arbitrator role in #Shenzhen.

Of course, one can argue that the accreditation is a regional mutual recognition. He got the same status as a recognised mediator in #Taiwan as well Image
5/ Reaching across the aisle is respectable, but owning biz w/ your political opponents seems too far. Esp. when you're hosting an election coordinating body, getting too close with agents of the enemy makes people judge him.

Ho's arrest may show his true colours? /END

Using @hkairport flights data on #Apr30 crawled by @webbhk , it's found that only 34.8 flights/hour at the #HongKong Int'l Airport during regular operation hours (0700-2259). That's 51% of the declared capacity of 2-runway HKIA & 41% as initially designed in 1991. 3rd runway?😅 Image
Using Online Coordination System, we can observe @hkairport's slot availability for summer 2023. Mostly green on #Apr30.

It was always yellow(nearly no slot) and red(no slot) before COVID. Being fully booked was a common thing for the #HongKong airport.

Not for now. Image
Even in the busiest week in coming August, greens are everywhere.
It shows how the former int'l aviation hub has been lost to other hubs in the region b/c of the late easing of #COVID restrictions, the aftermath of the enactment of National Security Law & lack of attractions. Image

The #HongKong Gestapo, aka NSL police, forced former pro-democracy labour union HKCTU members Joe Wong and Denny To to call off the planned #LabourDay protest. HKCTU was disbanded last year.

It reminds me of pics taken on May Day 2005. Might never watch these in HK again. Image
Leading the protest is, of course, the head of the HKCTU Lee Cheuk Yan.

In the heart of Causeway Bay, the protest went along the roads of "usual protest route" of the #HongKong island - From Victoria Park to Gov HQ.

Lee is now behind bars for organising "illegal assembly". ImageImage
Migrant domestic workers were the long-term supporters of the annual #MayDay protests. From wages to mandatory live-in arrangements, they've been campaigning for policy changes to make the city a friendly workplace for MDWs. At peak, there were ~390K of them serving HK families. ImageImageImage

So, who are the core police informants in the #HongKong pro-democracy 47 case? This has been talking on forums and social media for almost a day.

I attended 1 of the meetings hosted by Benny Tai, and I felt unsafe attending further. I was right

Let me break the silence. A 🧵
1/ Kim Chan, former auxiliary police and ex-DAB councillor assistant, claimed to switch sides b/c of Benny Tai's leadership in the 2014 Umbrella Movement.

He joined Tai's Operation Wind & Cloud (風雲計劃) in 2017, the plan to let all District Council seats contested in 2019.
2/ Chan started his groundwork in early 2019 but declared to withdraw 2 months before the election and let my HKU-mate Daniel Lei contest the constituency instead.

He spent 2 years in Tai's incubation programme and pull out suddenly. That's an alarm bell.

1/ Finally, they're on trial.
I have love and hate feelings on 47 #HongKong pro-democracy primary candidates & organisers. Some of them were my close friends and allies for years while some launched smear campaigns against me simply b/c I boycotted.

2/ Setting all political differences aside, they shouldn't be jailed in the first place. It is the Peking which implanted the draconian #NationalSecurityLaw through the backdoor in the Basic Law to make things which is perfectly legal on the books become "illegal".
3/ Most of the 47 defendants were with good guys: They want #HongKong to be a better & fairer place for everyone. And they have been doing that for years or even decades. I was glad to walk w/ them.

Claudia Mo's 2nd LegCo campaign in 2012.
Roy Tam & I in Occupy Movement in 2014.

Reading@BeijingToBrit on the UK Gov's latest Procurement Bill to ban Hikvision and Dahua, the 2 companies censoring everyone in#China and involved in Xinjiang's camps.
I managed Hikvision consoles in 2017 & here are my takes. A short🧵open.substack.com/pub/beijingtob…
1/ Going to Ap Liu Street in #HongKong, one'll see over a dozen CCTV stores selling Hikvision and Dahua products. Both have PRC & int'l versions.

Hikvision's HK distributor is WECL, the largest retailer in Ap Liu St.. Cameras are all over their showroom. That's not the pt. Image
2/ The point is: CCTV using analog tech. (Coaxial cables) alone will not pose threats. Hikvision's brief to MPs on replacing all Hikvision's systems in the UK is £8M is a bluff.

It is their IP-based products, particularly video recorders, impose threats.

1/ 3 years since the cross-border terrorist attack in #YuenLong, the #HongKong authorities are still concealing the truth. It's clear that the attack is well-coordinated by those in power behind the scene. If not, school heads in the district won't get the reminder ahead. A 🧵
2/ Max Chung & I felt it was our duty to light up the candle and curse the darkness. Therefore, we launched the Take Back #YuenLong / Liberate YL protest on the July 27. For sure, the police won't let us through by using many technical reasons.
3/ We fought hard at the appeal board we couldn't make it. As the protest has been well-advertised, #HongKongers flock to the satellite town on the day anyway.
Village leaders tried to negotiate w/ us before the day but have been called off as they blocked the protest permit.
