Hello and welcome to Wednesday's daily thread with all the news from and about #Ukraine, still fighting to maintain its freedom.
#Russia's war has reached Day 406.
This thread is updated throughout the day (and night when it's busy) using my own sources and aggregating news.
Yesterday started with attacks on #Odesa/#Odessa but was generally quiet in military terms.
But lots of other stories as Germany admits shame at not helping Ukraine earlier, Moscow's Church continues to be driven out + more 🇷🇺corruption. Review it here:
#Russia's losses in the last 24 hours are interesting. While troop deaths remain in the 500-650 range we've seen for the past 2 weeks, look at the number of artlliery systems/MLRS destroyed.
These are significant figures. New western donations having an effect? #RussiansGoHome
In its daily update, #Ukraine's General Staff says its planes made 9 strikes on Russian "areas of personnel/military equipment. A high-precision "KUB" type UAV was also shot down."
Artillery units also struck control points, 2 Grad rocket systems + electronic warfare station.
ATESH, the #Ukraine resistance movement has published this video, which it says its agents took from inside an ammo production plant in #Russia
It claims the Svobodny Sokol pipe plant in #Lipetsk has been converted to manufacture shells.
Atesh hints at sabotage to come.
Not 100% war related, but with #Russia spending so much on the war, sanctions biting & with fewer qualified workers, more + more accidents are occuring.
Here in St Petersburg a huge "spill" of boiling water literally melted the road and swallowed up this car. 3 people got burned
In #Kramatorsk heavy flooding is inflicting further misery on the lives of remaining residents.
Not only heavy rains are to blame - #Russia's persistent shelling of infrastructure, including flood defences, have hugely exacerbated the problems. #RussiaIsATerroristState
Oh thank you, thank you...
The flow of coffee has resumed after a few "dry" days!
I am extremely grateful to the support and donations this morning from Michael G and @MorganBrv
If you like what I do, see my profile for the Ko-Fi link to buy me a drink💙💛
A seemingly dull, but extremely important, update from UK Intel today.
#Russia unable to finance its debt, is openly begging for help from "friendly states" which almost certainly means China and maybe India.
This is literally selling the country's future to kill Ukrainians.
Ivan Fedorov, the exiled Mayor of #Melitopol says collaborator Maksym Zubarev lost an arm and a leg in this car bomb attack.
Angry locals storm a church in #Chernivtsi region in west Ukraine. It happened after priests of the Moscow-aligned church apparently refused the burial of a soldier in the village of Zadubrovka. The man's body can clearly be seen.
As Pres. Macron visits #China, some pleasing words from his hosts
China doesn't recognise #Ukraine's occupied territory as Russian, doesn't help Russia militarily & doesn't support the war
1/2 Leader of the Terrorist State holds a Security Council meeting, flanked with four traitors, so called "Heads" of #Ukraine's occupied regions.
The life expectancy for Pushilin & Co is pretty low and most likely to be bumped off by #Russia/FSB if Ukrainians don't get them first
2/2 #Putin droned on about the occupied regions and said security forces must do everything to ensure the safety of the people.
So Vova, get your murderous war criminals out of the foreign country, then everyone's safe!
In the words of UK advertising legends, "Simples!"
This time in St.Petersburg, a scary blaze took hold of an apartment block in the Krasnoselsky district of #Russia's second city.
Spotted by and thanks to Carolynne.
UEFA Execs have decided to allow #Belarus to continue competing in @EURO2024, despite protests from over 100 MEPs.
Belarus lost both qualifiers so far, but there's a problem for #Ukraine. Legislation may make it illegal for Ukraine to play in any sport which allows🇧🇾or🇷🇺to play.
Two more explosions (unconfirmed) reported in #Melitopol.
The blasts were reportedly half an hour apart in, or near the villages of Myrne and Tambovka.
In Myrne local channels say the Occupiers have been making defences recently.
Mixed news for the President of #Ukraine Football.
Andriy Pavelko was re-elected to UEFA's committee for four more years in Nyon, Switzerland today.
However a Swiss court sets an October date for a hearing where Pavelko is accused of threatening and trying to bribe a journalist
Constance, you know who you are, and thank you for your ongoing support
One of the buildings of #Russia's Defence Ministry in central #Moscow caught fire!
Prigozhin, where were you at 6pm this evening?
#Russia reports a Ukrainian light-engine plane has crashed in #Bryansk region. The pilot has been detained.
🇷🇺media report the man saying he is a civilian pilot on a job to take a picture and did not realise he had crossed the border. Russia say it was a #Ukraine recon mission.
A top adviser to @ZelenskyyUa is quoted saying talks are possible if Ukraine's army reaches the border with Crimea.
FT is paywalled, but you can read it here: westobserver.com/business/ukrai…
I've been expecting this to happen for a while. #Russia's first step to restoring the death penalty (though of course summary executions happen regularly 'off the book')
Looks like Putin has got Sergey Mironov, of the Just Russia - For Truth party to propose the legislation.
In the southern #Russia republic of #Ingushetia there's a shootout between police + rebels.
More details at the start of the new thread in a few minutes...

Wednesday. Day 1302 of the illegal war started by Russia.
For all the fact-checked news about Ukraine, analysis not sugar-coated, and honest appraisals of the situation, trust an expert who isn't here for clicks (if I was I'd post lies & gory videos).
Thanks for being #TeamTim
Yesterday an astonishing report from Yale showing Russia forcing kidnapped kids to work in drone factories, how Croatia may have embarrassed the Putin/ Hungary/Slovakia axis.
Those and many more stories in Tuesday's thread, click here to review:
Day 1301 of Ukraine fighting for its survival. The right to be free, speak their own language, worship in their own churches, to learn their own history.
A history of long suppression by Russia.
As war crimes grow daily, the words "never again" don't seem to apply.
Here's the🧵
Yesterday began, and ended, with Russia attacking Zaporizhzhia, injuring civilians.
Also, the head of the IAEA disgraced himself in Russia's arms, changes of 🇺🇦army leadership, and how a Russian guy was a Putin opponent, until 3 mins after being elected.
Day 1300 of Putin's war.
Another 100 days of fighting completed.
We are no nearer peace than we were 100 days ago.
Almost 200 days ago Trump demanded a 30-day unconditional ceasefire.
Not surprising as he started it, it's always Putin stopping peace.
Here's Monday's daily🧵
If you were busy over the weekend, click the link to see all Sunday's stories.
It was a day when Ukraine had to quickly repair a main railway line after a massive explosion, but they also managed to make multiple hits on Russia's rail and oil industries
Hello on Day 1298 of Russia's full invasion of its sovereign neighbour. So, only 1295 days late in fulfilling the boast of taking Kyiv in 3 days. #EATP for Putin.
I've compiled a🧵every single day without fail.
You can help my work with a boost, comment, re-post or a coffee🙏
Friday saw more important visitors arrive in Kyiv (and another familiar place is in Ukraine today).
There was more solidarity and practical support, while Russia suffered more oil woes.
I'll start in Odesa, because that's where the familiar face has turned up.
He was planning to return to Ukraine a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't make it, but now Boris is back.
Loved by nearly all Ukrainians, his early arrival (with Lord Ashcroft) meant he avoids the crowds.
Day 1297 of Russia's imperialist war, but the senior bully keeps being given a bloody nose by the junior school kid next door. How embarrassing for the "world's second greatest army" and more 'punches' thrown by Ukraine overnight..
There was so much in yesterday's thread.
Russia hitting churches, Ukraine striking a boat.
The US helping Belarus, which helps🇷🇺 & Trump questioning if the drone attack on Poland was a mistake.
Thursday ended with a Ukraine drone surge into Russia:
