Hello and welcome to Wednesday's daily thread with all the news from and about #Ukraine, still fighting to maintain its freedom.

#Russia's war has reached Day 406.
This thread is updated throughout the day (and night when it's busy) using my own sources and aggregating news.
Yesterday started with attacks on #Odesa/#Odessa but was generally quiet in military terms.

But lots of other stories as Germany admits shame at not helping Ukraine earlier, Moscow's Church continues to be driven out + more 🇷🇺corruption. Review it here:

#Russia's losses in the last 24 hours are interesting. While troop deaths remain in the 500-650 range we've seen for the past 2 weeks, look at the number of artlliery systems/MLRS destroyed.

These are significant figures. New western donations having an effect?
#RussiansGoHome Image
In its daily update, #Ukraine's General Staff says its planes made 9 strikes on Russian "areas of personnel/military equipment. A high-precision "KUB" type UAV was also shot down."

Artillery units also struck control points, 2 Grad rocket systems + electronic warfare station.
ATESH, the #Ukraine resistance movement has published this video, which it says its agents took from inside an ammo production plant in #Russia

It claims the Svobodny Sokol pipe plant in #Lipetsk has been converted to manufacture shells.

Atesh hints at sabotage to come.
Not 100% war related, but with #Russia spending so much on the war, sanctions biting & with fewer qualified workers, more + more accidents are occuring.

Here in St Petersburg a huge "spill" of boiling water literally melted the road and swallowed up this car. 3 people got burned
In #Kramatorsk heavy flooding is inflicting further misery on the lives of remaining residents.

Not only heavy rains are to blame - #Russia's persistent shelling of infrastructure, including flood defences, have hugely exacerbated the problems.

Oh thank you, thank you...
The flow of coffee has resumed after a few "dry" days!

I am extremely grateful to the support and donations this morning from Michael G and @MorganBrv

A seemingly dull, but extremely important, update from UK Intel today.

#Russia unable to finance its debt, is openly begging for help from "friendly states" which almost certainly means China and maybe India.

This is literally selling the country's future to kill Ukrainians. Image
Ivan Fedorov, the exiled Mayor of #Melitopol says collaborator Maksym Zubarev lost an arm and a leg in this car bomb attack.

President Zelenskyy has made his 1st official state visit to #Poland. This trip was notable as it was the first announced in advance.

Meetings are now underway in Warsaw. Earlier President Andrzej Duda presented Zelenskyy with the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest award
Another day, another church scandal in #Ukraine.

Angry locals storm a church in #Chernivtsi region in west Ukraine. It happened after priests of the Moscow-aligned church apparently refused the burial of a soldier in the village of Zadubrovka. The man's body can clearly be seen.
As Pres. Macron visits #China, some pleasing words from his hosts

China doesn't recognise #Ukraine's occupied territory as Russian, doesn't help Russia militarily & doesn't support the war

My view: China benefits from the war, so happy for a continuation

More violence against military registration buildings in #Russia.

A window of an enlistment office was smashed in the #Ulyanovsk region

A policeman and a nightwatchman were inside in the village of Pavlovka, but failed to catch the man who threw concrete through the window. Image
#FriendlyFire in #Russia

A 20 year old soldier has shot dead his 18 year old colleague in a village in #Kursk, near the border with #Ukraine.

Both men were called up last summer and their service was due to end soon. The dead man is named only as Eldar G, the accused Radmir F.
Earlier I mentioned #Ukraine Resistance group #Atesh

Tey've now published photos and plans of #Russia's construction of defensive lines in occupied #Crimea near Novopavlivka.

Atesh says it knows of "every trench, trench and firing position that the Rashists are preparing" ImageImageImageImage
#Russia's psychological work continues.

In #Razumnoe,a small town in #Belgorod region, they've just held an "evacuation exercise"

Sirens sounded at 2pm, then buses arrived for the mock evacuation.

All designed to frighten residents and make them think #Ukraine poses a threat.
2 people died have been killed as #Russia fired on the centre of a village west of #Bakhmut

Another 4 residents were wounded in Oleksievo-Druzhkivka, south of #Kramatorsk

#Ukraine says cluster munitions were used and they're currently working to "neutralise unexploded" rockets. ImageImage
#Poland has joined #France and other countries in refusing to host another round of this event.

Fencing's decision to admit athletes from Terrorist States is ruining the sport's world cup and sebsequent Olympics.

1/2
Leader of the Terrorist State holds a Security Council meeting, flanked with four traitors, so called "Heads" of #Ukraine's occupied regions.
The life expectancy for Pushilin & Co is pretty low and most likely to be bumped off by #Russia/FSB if Ukrainians don't get them first Image
2/2
#Putin droned on about the occupied regions and said security forces must do everything to ensure the safety of the people.

So Vova, get your murderous war criminals out of the foreign country, then everyone's safe!
In the words of UK advertising legends, "Simples!"
You know it's your lucky day when...

...the rocket doesn't explode.

#ZSU #Ukraine
Just passengers beating up a fellow traveller on an internal flight in #Russia.

It's said the poor guy just wanted to get off mid-flight and tried to open the door!
#RussiaOnFire

Even the buses in #Russia seem to want to denazify themselves.

30 passengers in the Suzunsky district of #Novosibirsk had a lucky escape when this suddenly happened right on the highway.

Is that amount of black smoke normal?
And another chapter for #RussiaOnFire

This time in St.Petersburg, a scary blaze took hold of an apartment block in the Krasnoselsky district of #Russia's second city.

Spotted by and thanks to Carolynne.
UEFA Execs have decided to allow #Belarus to continue competing in @EURO2024, despite protests from over 100 MEPs.

Belarus lost both qualifiers so far, but there's a problem for #Ukraine. Legislation may make it illegal for Ukraine to play in any sport which allows🇧🇾or🇷🇺to play.
Two more explosions (unconfirmed) reported in #Melitopol.

The blasts were reportedly half an hour apart in, or near the villages of Myrne and Tambovka.

In Myrne local channels say the Occupiers have been making defences recently.
Mixed news for the President of #Ukraine Football.

Andriy Pavelko was re-elected to UEFA's committee for four more years in Nyon, Switzerland today.

However a Swiss court sets an October date for a hearing where Pavelko is accused of threatening and trying to bribe a journalist
Constance, you know who you are, and thank you for your ongoing support

LOL. #RussiaOnFire

One of the buildings of #Russia's Defence Ministry in central #Moscow caught fire!

Prigozhin, where were you at 6pm this evening?
#Russia reports a Ukrainian light-engine plane has crashed in #Bryansk region. The pilot has been detained.

🇷🇺media report the man saying he is a civilian pilot on a job to take a picture and did not realise he had crossed the border. Russia say it was a #Ukraine recon mission. ImageImageImage
It was 20 degrees Celcius in #Bakhmut today.

But that's not really helped with remaining snow melting quickly to add to the mud-bath that is the entire frontline there now.

#DonetskIsUkraine
Photos of the light plane which crashed in #Bryansk.
The pilot from #Ukraine is now said to have been armed with a machine gun.

The price of freedom.

"#Ukraine may negotiate with #Russia over #Crimea.
That's the headline from the @FT tonight.

A top adviser to @ZelenskyyUa is quoted saying talks are possible if Ukraine's army reaches the border with Crimea.
FT is paywalled, but you can read it here:
westobserver.com/business/ukrai…
I've been expecting this to happen for a while.
#Russia's first step to restoring the death penalty (though of course summary executions happen regularly 'off the book')

Looks like Putin has got Sergey Mironov, of the Just Russia - For Truth party to propose the legislation.
In the southern #Russia republic of #Ingushetia there's a shootout between police + rebels.

Welcome to yet another daily thread covering all things Ukraine and Russia.

It's Day 1195 and the day of the latest talks between the sides in Istanbul.

But all the buzz is still about one of the most incredible and successful military attacks ever, and Russia is hurting.
Ukraine's astonishingly well planned, daring and audacious attack is front page news around the world this morning.

If somehow you don't know what I am writing about, you're in for a treat. Re-live the extraordinary day by scrolling through Sunday's🧵⬇️

First important news from Poland where the Presidential election has been won by the anti-EU, anti-Ukraine candidate, right-wing Nawrocki

Despite gaining under than 51% of the vote, the tRUmp-aligned Nawrocki can now veto any legislation passed by @donaldtusk & the liberal govt Image

Day 1194 of Putin's war, though let's remember the initial invasion came 11 years ago.

Since February 2014, not once have western sanctions or military support come close to being enough to restore justice and defeat evil.

Welcome to THE daily 🇺🇦 thread for Sunday 1 June
A new day, a new season. Summer officially started, but nothing is likely to change just yet.

Y'day's thread had some great stories, but everything paled into insignificance when justy before midnight came news of a disaster in Russia's Bryansk region:
1/5
I want to start with events in Bryansk region.
What's happened is a tragedy even if you believe all Russians are partly to blame for the war.

7 people died - five passengers on a train and 2 in a truck. 69 were injured.

The lorry crashed down when the bridge collapsed.

Another night of no sleep yet - dramatic action in Moscow.

Time to start another daily thread covering everything to do with Putin's disastrous 'operation' in Ukraine.

It's 5am in Russia and Ukraine, on Day 1190 of the war.
Let's begin...
I've still NEVER missed even one day since the start of Russia's full invasion.

But yesterday's thread ended up being one of the most lively. Another near 50-post story of the day, and if you like seeing "bavovna" in Russia, go right through to the end!
1/3
Russia says 33 drones have been shot down approaching Moscow during the night.

The biggest incident is clearly this at the Mikron micro-electronics plant in Zelenograd, in Moscow oblast...

Hello again and welcome to the daily thread for Day 1189 of Russia's illegal war.

While media keep hinting Trump may be about to impose sanctions on Putin's regime, there's still evidence to say he hates Zelenskyy more.

All the news from and about Ukraine in one🧵right here:
As always though, in case you missed anything yesterday, blow is the link to the start of Monday's thread

So if you don't have much time online, just bookmark my profile page and you can always go back to where you left off for a summary of all the news
A much quieter night, but Russia still fired 60 drones into Ukraine. Air Defence managed to stop 43 (35 shot down and 8 disabled via EW)

But that still leaves 17 which made it through, at a very high strike rate of 28%

Good morning on Day 1176 of the war in Europe.
In my opinion, Ukraine should have won this war in 2022/23.

Effective leadership is based on good, decisive decisions. Sadly, the allies have never been decisive, preferring dithering and half measures.

Welcome to my daily thread:
What I mean by dithering is endless internal political battles in most countries to give adequate weapons. Scholz (Taurus), Biden (everything) the most obvious examples, though Joe was hampered by Congress and is way better than now

But it's always enough to survive, not to win
If you missed anything from yesterday, catch up with this link to the start of yesterday's thread. Scroll down to where you got to and complete your knowledge!

The start of a new week and simultaneously almost the end of 167 weeks of Russia's attempt to liberate Ukraine from its leader and remove the country from maps.

It's Day 1167 of Putin's full invasion. Welcome to Monday's daily thread.
First the link back to Sunday's thread for those who were busy y'day

It started with Ukraine counting the cost of yet more strikes on civilians and infrastructure but there were more strategic hits on Russia during the day, incl a night attack on Moscow.
If you were with me late last night, you will know about the ballistic missiles and big drone attack on Sumy.

I think Russia moved to attacking soft targets in big numbers.

A record 46% of UAVs were NOT stopped.
116 fired, just 42 shot down and 21 neutralised by EW.Image
