Nishkam Karma - The essence of the Bhagavad Gita

1. Nishkam Karma or Nishkama Karma (Devanagari: निष्काम कर्म) is the core theme of Bhagavad Gita. It is also considered the essence or the central message of the Bhagavad Gita.

2. The term is Nishkam Karma or निष्काम कर्म.
Nishkam/निष्काम is a sandhi of nih+kam or निः+काम. Here “nih” or “निः” means “without” and “kam/काम” means “kamna”/”कामना”, i.e. any kind of desire.
Karma/कर्म means “work”/”action”, “kri/कृ ” dhatu. Image
3. Nishkam vs Sakam Karma - The understanding and reasoning for peace of mind and heart.
#SanatanaDharma #Hindutva Image
4. The term “Nishkam Karma” means “action or without desire” or “work without motive”.
To elaborate on this— Krisha suggests that we have rights only to the work or the action, and not to its results, whether it is good or bad.
5. Our works and our desires should be “desireless”, we should not desire for any pleasing (or unpleasing) result. “Nishkama Karma” is the central message of the Bhagavad Gita.
6. Ultimately, Nishkam Karma is considered non-attachment to the result of personal actions in life, but with selfless and loving motives. The karmic concept centers on whatever actions a yogi makes within the world for the sake of others and not for self-benefit.
7. So when you practice Nishkam Karma, keep your mental flaws ( Vikriti) away and follow your dharma.
Ultimately, Nishkam Karma is considered non-attachment to the result of personal actions in life, but with selfless and loving motives. Image
Stick to your Karma and be a Nishkam human being. It brings in self-awareness of the feebleness of desires, material things, and persons we always keep running after. The moment you realize the futility of all this, you become free.
Radhe Radhe
Blessings from Shri Krishna
