Make no confusion.

We are in the midst of losing our municipal democratic rights in Ontario.

Here is a list of some of the services your municipality is responsible for that will no longer be democratically-controlled:

🧵⬇️

#ONpoli #TOpoli
🚇 Public transit

🚦 Traffic management

🚓 Police

🚑 Paramedics
🚒 Fire services

🏗️ Land use planning

🚽 Sewers

🏡 Community housing
🏪 Shelters

🚸 Childcare

🏊 Recreation centres

🌳Parks
📖 Libraries

🚿 Water treatment centres

🚗 Roads and bridges

💲 City budget
These are just some of the services your city council controls & which you have a say over through democratically electing your councillor.

Ford's plan to remove the voices of Ontarians in how these services are delivered sets a dangerous precedent for democracy in our country.

Therme does not belong at Ontario Place.

New revelations from legislative committee about this rotten deal (with many thanks to @jennkfrench):

@ONPlace4All
* The Ford gov't extended the deadline for Ontario Place proposals six days before the original deadline. One of the late submissions? Therme

2/8
* Even after Ford awarded them Ontario Place, Therme applied to redevelop a decommissioned power plant in Niagara - if they like that site, why not build there?

Quick recap of the #ONBudget:

Education

➡ No immediate financial relief for post-secondary students, only a freeze of over-priced pre-pandemic tuition fees
➡ Inadequate funding to hire more educators for smaller, safer classes - students and faculty need help

#onpse #onted
Housing

➡ Ignored our #homelessness crisis
➡ Absolutely ZERO funds for direct rent relief
➡ Raised hydro rates for residential properties, instead of the promised reduction of 12%
Health and LTC

➡ Hospitals have a $850 million #COVID19 deficit, no action plan to expand public healthcare
#LTC boutique tax credits doesn't fix our broken private care industry
➡ No details on achieving four hours of direct care for every LTC resident in Ontario by 2025

Finance Minister begins budget speech at #queenspark
#onpoli
Ontarians desperately need direct financial relief. Small business owners, people who have lost incomes, and people who are concerned about covid recovery need to be included in the plan. Will we see investments, or more cuts? Watch the full speech here: ola.org/en/legislative…
Will there be any support offered for people experiencing #homelessness in #Toronto? How about for #college and #university students who are concerned about their job prospects coming during and after school? #onpoli #onpse #topoli
