Shkreli embodies the perverse virtues that permeate highest reaches of business and government – not just towering greed and narcissism but a willingness to sacrifice anyone or anything for the sake of money and power.
At every turn, Shkreli has shown he’s willing to do whatever it takes to serve his own self-interest. He believes that the norms that other people live by don’t apply to him.
Shkreli's attitude toward the law is that anything he wants to do is okay unless it is clearly illegal (and even if it’s illegal, it’s okay if he can get away with it). He shows contempt for anyone who gets in his way—whether judges, prosecutors, or members of Congress.
In all these ways, Shkreli defies what might be called “the common good.”
