I disagree. They've been pandered to for years, told they're the backbone of America, the real Americans, the salt of the earth, and their response has been a political de-evolution back to the worst parts of the 1950s. Enough coddling. /1
Conservatives who say that Trumpers need "understanding" would never have said that to people on the left - many of whom had, and have, legitimate concerns about equality, racism, poverty, etc. Shaming was good enough - and deserved - when the far left went off a cliff. /2
So spare me now the sudden empathy for people who chant for intolerance, against a free press, for jailing political opponents, and for the glorification of ignorance. I called shame on the left, I'll call shame on the far-right Trump cult, too. /3x
