Growing up in the presence of a strong woman is something every man needs. We always talk about how boys need their Daddies but Lord knows we need out Momas too. Life isn't perfect, so people are not infallible but if you've had the privilege you know what I mean.
Mothers have the singular capacity to bond with their sons before anyone else. Before Dad did school runs and taught you a few things around the house, before your crushes and lovers and the women we marry, there's been Moma. If you're lucky, she's always been there.
Mothers teach their sons some of the most important lessons in life. I wish I could write all I've learned from mine. Kindness. Fairness. Strength. Pride in oneself. Loyalty. Generosity. Valuing family. Forgiveness. Faith, prayer and a walk with God.
All that sounds nice but that woman was tough as nails.
You're my son, you cant fail at school.
I gave birth to you, you can't be wayward.

The woman blessed me by force, still does. When it was necessary, Annang woman that she is, she whooped the silly outta me. 🤣
My mother raised my sisters right. I'm waiting for my daughters, I have a few things to teach them too. She wasn't into traditional gender roles much. Everyone did everything. You cooked, cleaned and took care of the house. My sons have much to learn too. She took charge.
My mother's words in marriage can't fit into this thread but in their 35 years of marriage, I've learned plenty. Patience. Trust. Kindness. Lemme do and marry mbok, I have a few things I need to start living by. 😄 Moma believed (still does) in me more than anyone else did.
Ah, those days. A call, a prayer, one conversation and the Amber's of ambition caught on fire again. I owe a lot to her. Well, almost everything. Hold on, I'm not saying she didn't make me wonder if I was adopted o. She beat me once and I really did. Stayed awake at night 😭😭
I totally deserved it though and I'm glad she didn't shy away from doing the tough things. Tough love ain't pretty but it's worth it. Moma may not be the perfect mother but she's perfect for me.
Your Highness, I love you. Happy Mothers day. Thank you for it all
Signed,
Moma's boy
Young Moma's put there, don't leave your sons to your husband's alone. Raise them right.

Now I gotta unroll this and send it to Moma before monitoring spirits send screenshots to her.
