A draft map of NC House districts has been uploaded.

My understanding is that today is the only day that the #NCGA will be accepting public comments on this map.

ncleg.gov/Committees/Com…\Member%20Submitted%20Maps\HBK-11%20House%20Plan #NCLeg #NCPol I don't know when that map was uploaded - wasn't there a few days ago. How are regular people supposed to able to stay up with all this in time to meaningfully participate in the process?

Every 10 years, after the census, voting districts are redrawn as part of reapportionment & the process is called #redistricting.

#Gerrymandering is intentionally drawing voting districts to create an advantage for a political party or group, and disadvantage another. Each state draws its own congressional voting district lines. North Carolina draws its State Senate and State House districts at the same time.

In NC, the state legislature draws the voting district maps & the governor cannot veto them.

.@CommonCauseNC has analysis of North Carolina proposed draft voting district maps, including maps showing NC’s Black population.

With NC's history of racial #gerrymandering, looking at #redistricting as an equity issue is vital.

It is disappointing that @AP news uncritically repeated demonstrably false claims by some NC lawmakers that Federal Courts have held that there is no racially polarized voting in North Carolina.

A lie is a lie, y'all.
southerncoalition.org/resources/scsj… Image NCGOP lawmakers tried this mischaracterization before, and Federal judges explicitly told them they were wrong.

We're uniting virtually to join the #VotingRightsMarch on the 58th anniversary of the historic March on Washington.

As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “our most urgent request to the president of the United States and every member of Congress is to give us the right to vote.” The march is part of a nationwide demonstration to demand that lawmakers take action to protect #VotingRights.

Ok y'all, real talk:

I keep seeing messaging from organizations saying or implying that asking someone if they've been vaccinated for #COVID is somehow rude or bad manners.

The U.S. Supreme Court has effectively ended the CDC's pandemic residential eviction moratorium.

If you are in North Carolina & need rental assistance see:

Sigh.

If you are reporting on the reactionary "war on Critical Race Theory", please note that it's well documented that these efforts are intentionally inflammatory propaganda.

Phil Berger, one of the most powerful politicians in North Carolina, said the CDC’s guidance on wearing masks is like its caution against eating raw cookie dough: “guidance to ignore.”

#NCPol #COVID Any agency, entity, or department that relies on state funds in North Carolina may be afraid to contradict Phil Berger (in word or deed) because he controls the North Carolina Senate.

As school boards across NC are deciding on face mask policies, the CDC has recommended universal indoor masking for adults and children at all schools.

The American Academy of Pediatrics also recommends universal masking in schools. #NCEd "AAP recommends universal masking because a significant portion of the student population is not yet eligible for vaccines, and masking is proven to reduce transmission of the virus and to protect those who are not vaccinated."

Multiple North Carolina city elections may be delayed until 2022 because delayed census results don’t leave enough time to adjust city council & other municipal voting districts to reflect population changes.

1/ #NCPol Voting districts for state, county, and city elections are redrawn using census results to ensure that voting districts are roughly equal in population.

Congressional districts will also be redrawn as part of reapportionment & adjusting for population changes.
