Trump NEVER jokes or laughs; he jeers. He doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults, he actually thinks in them! His mind's a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices & knee-jerk nastiness. Never an under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Trump's tweets turn being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. Rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy.

Doctors, microbiologists, immunologists, epidemiologists & other scientists keep saying covid is dangerous ... but the cool guys at my bar who only went to high school, avoiding science class, tell me it's not dangerous at all.

It's just too hard knowing who to believe anymore. When the guys you went to high school with, tell you that science is stupid ... you can always sneak a casual look at the data. They probably won't even see you do it & still think you're cool.

Loading the bus for my annual three day paleontological field trip with the kids. Some rain forecasted. Wish me luck.

Back in time across #Texas ... almost 35 years doing this.

Heading out to the first stop, the Eocene on the Brazos River. We survived the Eocene ... kids got lots of fossils. The bus is now heading back in time to the Cretaceous (120 million years ago). First a fossil oyster reef, then a pit with lots of echinoids. Dispite weather reports full of dread, we're in the sweet spot.
