Since we're all talking about the Proud Boys now, will people care more about Sheriff Villanueva having had a Proud Boys fan speak at his anti-BLM press conference in early September? In this Buzzfeed photo she poses w/ Enrique Tarrio (id'd as a leader in the LAT photo below).

Villanueva invited her to speak at a press conference aimed at slamming BLM and those protesting the shooting of #DijonKizzee. She blamed BLM for breaking Jesus at a rally to open churches back up. She also has a thing for racist memes:

Finishing a companion piece to my look at the Sheriff's blatant falsehoods around the shooting of #DijonKizzee and I am still struck by how little traction this story has gotten.

In part, I think the challenge is that the story acknowledges Kizzee was armed. Police narratives have groomed media into seeing a 1-to-1 relationship btwn being armed/gangbanger & intention/aggression/criminality that complicates the story for those seeking more perfect victims.
I've made multiple threads about why it is important to talk about how/why folks might be armed and will talk about it more in the forthcoming story, but just for reference...
Yesterday, the sheriff came out and offered a new version of the killing of #DijonKizzee in which BOTH deputies fired because they had been looking down the barrel of the gun Kizzee raised. Except the video they provided shows him dropping the gun before the 2nd draws his.
I've slowed it down and put the cursor in the area where you can see the gun fall at about 10 seconds in. At this .25 speed, the gap btwn that and 2nd deputy's drawing of his weapon is easier to see. #DijonKizzee @BenCrumpLaw
For reference, this is where the gun landed. It's the bottom blue arrow. The other two point to clothes dropped as he fell.
Per @LASDHQ today, not only did both deputies see #DijonKizzee bend over & pick up the gun, but the 2nd deputy was said to have been staring down the barrel of the gun. At ~25 secs in, however, you see the gun hit the ground near the pole/truck back end.
The second deputy does not begin to fire his weapon til approximately 27 seconds in. For reference, the gun can be spotted here at the bottom of the frame...in the same place it is seen landing in the video. [the other two arrows point to his clothing] #DijonKizzee

Sheriff Villanueva has accused the media & protesters as "fanning the flames of hatred." Yet he asked Elsa Aldeguer, who regularly flashes the White Power symbol, to speak during his virulently anti-BLM press conf. last Thurs. on the #DijonKizzee protests.
Elsa from Tujunga had accused BLM of breaking Jesus at her Open the Churches rally. She also recently posted a meme depicting Pres. Obama as a chimp and about her allegiance with the Three Percenters.
Also featured was Joe Collins, republican challenger to Maxine Waters seat. He's fun.
here is the "yes,l agree that the sun rises in the east" disclaimer: no one should have to be shooting cops, cops shouldn't have to be shooting others (but there is a lot more to cops using deadly force)
But the way that @CBSNews @CBS8 & @nbcsandiego are covering the #ComptonShooting of LASD deputies lays bare broadcast #journalism's dependence on quick, easy content from reliable sources at the expense giving viewers a fuller context.
Context to why someone is this volatile world would shoot an LASD deputy could be explained by the suspicious death of #AndresGuardado

#DijonKizzee was murdered IN MY BACK YARD. Until I knew his name my dad & I were terrified it was my brother. I have to go out tomorrow and see all of the blood left behind. Lapd had me blocked inside of my house and had his body lying on my property for hours.
