One bright spot is the quite dramatic fall in gas prices (this graph for futures market) in the last week.

#Russia's decision y'day to send gas through the Nord-Stream pipeline after all, eases things a little more.

The Kremlin needs the cash to finance the war, so has to sell, but knows it can cut off western supplies at any point with winter approaching.

If we don't see this through & let Putin get a settlement he wants, then we repeat exactly what we did in 2008 #Georgia war & the 2014 #Ukraine invasion.

Allow #Russia to regroup, strengthen defence, then launch a bigger attack, with far worse, catastrophic consequences than now

In #Kherson so far tonight it's been a little quieter than of late. There was a report of explosions in #Chkalove earlier but still unconfirmed.

Quite a few Russian planes have been in the skies, perhaps limiting progress for #Ukraine's front line.

#Russia has fired on #Mykolaiv tonight, with two missiles landing.

You can judge the size of one blast in this CCTV footage of the moment of impact. Electricity has been cut in some areas.

Deputy Mayor of #Ochakiv Oleksiy Vaskov stood beside the wreckage as he told on Facebook how Russians hit the settlement in the early hours.

A TV personality in #Russia faces up to 5 years in jail for a parody song/video.

A politician has accused Aleksandr Gudkov of "inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity."

The joke works best in Russian language of course.
"Ya Russkiy", sure you guessed means "I'm Russian"

Gudkov changed that to "Ya uzkiy" meaning "I'm narrow" and altered the video a little too in his own version, which has angered a lunatic fringe of humourless nationalists.

#Ukraine claims to have liberated the village of Ozerne in #Donetsk region.

The settlement is just 10km south of #Lyman which Russians captured long ago.

If confirmed it makes the invaders' hopes of capturing nearby #Sloviansk and #Kramatorsk even more remote.

Among all the #Ukraine hits in occupied #Kherson, just noticed one thing hidden away in the military reports which I missed this morning.

We already knew all the main bridges in the region were disabled. It appears UA forces also hit the ferry station in #Beryslav (to #Kakhovka)

Difficult to say for sure but looks like an effort to ensure the pontoon bridge underneath the road bridge won't get near completion.

3 days after a strike which killed 50 Russian troops in #Balakliya, there's another big explosion in the town in #Kharkiv region today.

Two people have been injured in #Kharkiv

Several private houses and a high-rise were damaged in the #Novobavarsky district when Russia shelled the city this afternoon.

At least two people have died in multiple explosions in occupied #Snihurivka (RU: #Snigirevka) in #Mykolaiv oblast.

Early reports said a father and his 4 year old son were killed as locals spoke of "around 10 explosions", some near a playground.

No photos/video yet.

In #Donetsk oblast, a strike in #Trudivske (RU: Trudovsky) this evening.

The town is midway between Donetsk and #Mariupol and has mostly avoided the shells so far in the war.

A couple of hours ago I wrote about a #Ukraine strike on #Balakliya in #Kharkiv region.

Now a video said to be of the scene. It's unverified, so I post with caution, but the time stamp checks out and I can't find this having been posted before.

Another Russian "warehouse" is blazing in #Kherson region.

It seems certain a #Ukraine missile has hit the building in #TomynaBalka. That's about 25km from Kherson city, in the south-west of the oblast.

New satellite photos taken today show #Russia has manged to complete construction of a pontoon bridge in #Kherson region.

But it's NOT across the #Dnipro as some are reporting. It's across a tributary to the main river, near Korsunka, on the south bank and doesn't help much.

Late this afternoon in #Crimea, another huge column of military equipment was seen on the move.

The destination of this train unknown, but almost certainly will be in mainland #Ukraine tomorrow morning.

How old and reliable the gear is remains to be seen.

The nightly attack on #Kharkiv region starts again, although to be honest it's just as likely in daylight in recent weeks.

Missiles have fallen in the small town of #Zmiiv, about 40km south of Kharkiv itself.

Quite a night it's turning out to be for #Ukraine's offensive.

Each strike = fewer weapons and ammo for the invaders to defend themselves with.

What must be really unnerving for #Russia's army is the Intel Ukraine must have. Sure some from satellites but they must fear traitors

Good article here by @Andrew__Roth on #Russia's persecution of another journalist who faces an outrageously long jail sentence tomorrow for doing his job.

@isafronov's father, also a journalist, died when falling out of a window.
