So I've been accused of not enjoying the sport of cycling because I have doubts on Froome's performance. I was enjoying cycling, the #Giro101 specifically, until yesterday. Nothing wrong with doubts and awareness...
It happened during Armstrong era, where people religiously (and I use that word literally) believed in the hype and performance...
If you follow cycling for years you tend to pick in certain signs. Of course I'm likely to be wrong but the jiffy bag explanation for Wiggins' case were at best ridiculous, inaccurate and shady....
The use of salbutamol for Froome at the Vuelta was ill-timed (he won the stage after a bad one) and well over the limit and Sky explanations don't add up to anyone who actually listens...
I still respect people who like Sky and Froome, it's their prerogative and like I said I've not been proven right....
Then you see a performance like today. 80 Kms solo, dropping too athletes, pushing 350watts average maybe over several hours....when until now (apart from Zoncolan) he had shown no power (I'm talking since Vuelta 2017)....
Then you hear Portal (his coach) saying words like "unbelievable". Same word used by commentators and Sky's own tweet as well...
But still, I'm the one who gets told to stop following cycling. Well, I won't. I believe the vast majority is clean, is great, is epic. We just need to keep an eye on dubious performances and rightly point them out....
Just "believing" plays in the hands of those who want to dope and cheat. I will not stop. Long live (clean) cycling
