Yesterday, we got a completely unexpected call that my mother had had a heart attack, and had to be taken by helicopter to the nearest real hospital, about 75 minutes away.

My mother, who is very healthy and active, apparently had a mostly blocked carotid. They had to immobilize her, as any movement put her life in further danger.

This comes very closely on the heels of the passing of my mother-in-law, who has always been a second mom to me, and whom I was 24/7 caregiver during her decline.

We drove over and are staying near the hotel. My mom had surgery, and her prognosis is optimistic. It was a scary night, morning is looking a little better.

I appreciate any kind thoughts, but I want to say so,etching really quickly that is important.

The reason my mom is alive is a matter of timing.
Her boyfriend immediately drove her to the local hospital when he knew there was a problem, and the helicopter and hospital staff took zero time to get her the help she needed.

We were told by the hospital staff that in such an event, any kind of heart attack, care has to be delivered within a maximum of 90 minutes. That’s what saved her life.

If this happens to you or someone around you, you have to consider yourself on the shortest possible timeline to get care. Don’t risk any delay at all. It could save your life, or that of your loved one.

That’s 90 minutes at the OUTSIDE.

I want to thank my mom’s gentleman friend, who is a very decent guy, and I want to thank the hospital and chopper people who provided such amazing care.

We think she will be okay. We will be okay, too, it was just very scary.

But please remember. If this happens to you, don’t be ‘brave’ and try to tough it out. GET HELP IMMEDIATELY.

Also, maybe take a moment to tell people you love them if you can, okay?
