Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's ad stands out as a tipping point that both reflected her strengths as a candidate and amplified structural forces working against Rep. Joe Crowley from the very beginning. huffingtonpost.com/entry/how-alex…

One aspect of this I did not get into is the long reach of Gov. Cuomo's 2012 decisions. Some Dems blame him for both failing to veto state Senate's legislative gerrymandering scheme and allowing them to decouple congressional redistricting, which eventually sent it to the courts.

For all the talk of "expanding the electorate" and reviving the Obama coalition in places like Georgia, @Ocasio2018 appears to be the most air-tight proof of concept for it so far. It was a deliberate part of her strategy, and how she defied Crowley poll showing him up by 36.

If there is one group that was pivotal to Ocasio-Cortez's win it was undoubtedly @justicedems, with @demsocialists a close second.

Corbin Trent of @justicedems said her ad alone raised $170,000 of $400k+ total. @rokhanna's co-endorsement was another $50k. They starting putting stuff on the credit card, knowing the money would come in.

Another interesting component: Ocasio-Cortez did well in all parts of the district, per a data scientist who spoke to the Times.

Anecdotally, she appears to have really excited the yuppies in Astoria and Sunnyside as much as working-class Latinos in Jackson Heights and Elmhurst.

This is important: CUNY analysis of precinct data shows her biggest margins were in whiter parts of the district.
