Let me tell you a story...
A brand supports Super Eagles to the world cup...

The 'patriotic' brand produced an outrageous number of Super Eagles themed edition of its product...

Unfortunately, the Super Eagles were out of the tournament after the first round...

Though the Super Eagles were out of the tournament, the Nigerian football body, Nigerian Footballa Association, will get a sum of $8 million for the participation of the Super Eagles and by extension, Nigeria
And now, realising that the Super Eagles has won on both sides - from endorsements (through the brand and other brands ofcourse)and from the organisers of the tournament (FIFA), the brand has decided to make its Super Eagles-themed-edition not go 'unbought'
So, the brand and it's marketing strategists decided to go back to the drawing board and get the best way to 'offload' these Super Eagles-themed-edition of its product in the warehouse across the country...
The marketing and brand strategists decided to return to the 'check under your crown' days to win prizes ranging from N10,000 to N10 million and the brand management bought the idea...
Sadly, the brand isn't a favourite choice or first 3 choices amongst consumers, according to a market survey, but because this brand is a national brand, it's perceived to always shine bright and appeal to consumers...
Now, the brand is spending huge funds on promotion of the Super Eagles-themed-edition just to ensure the manufactured products are all consumed before its expiry date and at least two months after the tournament
My honest take: It would have been smart and reasonable to make lesser production of the Super Eagles-themed-edition since the brand isn't the market leader and it is a must you produce enmassse, why not kick off the promotion with the tournament like a competiting brand did?
I just hope this brand learns because the brand keeps deceiving itself as the market leader even after buying off three strongest competitors to join the family, it's yet to become the leading brand....
Interestingly, this brand's arch competitor is currently undergoing research with a view of returning to the market to conquer it....
While all this is going on, a stronger competitor and internationally acclaimed competitor just joined the game and for me, it's going to be as exciting and competitve as the 2019 general elections in Nigeria
If you are wondering what this is all about, well I will put it this way, a bottle of alcohol is best enjoyed listening to strings of a musical instrument known as harp under a bright shining star but only a wise taste bud can make it relishing and deserving of every gulp!
