This is truly incredible news as we're gearing up for another great year. We'd be remiss not to pause and reflect on these accomplishments first, though. I was traveling when this year's scores were released, so I'm going to share some data and insight this weekend. (THREAD)
Student enrollment in AP courses at EHS over time --

Enrollment has steadily increased over the last 5 years, rising to a level in 2017-2018 that was at an all-time high in school history and represented a 71% increase over 5 years earlier (2013-2014 year).
Over the same 5-year span, the number of EHS AP students qualifying as AP Scholars has increased even more sharply.
Thus, as recruitment of more students into AP classes has grown, and more students have challenged themselves by taking college-level AP courses in high school, their achievement has more than kept pace. Performance on exams has not suffered by any measure.
If anything, the data suggest that more students are enrolling in AP courses who are ready and capable of thriving in them.
Looking at some specific courses and exam score outcomes for this year -

How about AP Lang/Comp. @MsAshLaz had a whopping 53 students score 3 or higher, w/ 23 of those at 4 or higher. This total of 53 at 3+ is more than twice as many in the yr prior to her teaching the course.
Meanwhile, across the hall in AP Lit/Comp, in her 2nd year of teaching this course, @mrs_shaughn & her students brought home 50% more 3s, 4s, & 5s than in the yr prior to her start in AP Lit. Moreover, the # of students scoring at 3 or higher in 2018 is a high in a 6-year span.
New teacher but another great exam year in AP US History. Over two-thirds of students who took the exam scored a 3, 4, or 5. Mr Wisner not only brings a lot of experience teaching this course, but he has done a great job of adapting to the changes College Board has made to APUSH.
Students of both Ms. Hawk & Mr. Kennedy fared very well on AP World History. A very impressive 51 of their students scored 3s, 4s, & 5s in 2018, which set a new high in EHS history. (Previous high was 42 in 2016.)
I often tell students & parents that this course (AP World History) is very demanding in terms of the history it attempts to cover in one course, especially for a high school sophomore. College Board seems to finally agree, as this course will undergo major changes in 2019-2020.
.@coachjonesehs shows no signs of letting up, as students scoring 3 or higher on Micro & Macro exams in 2018 are *BOTH* new all-time EHS highs. 34 Micro, 39 Macro. This course is a major bonus, as students take both in 1 yr & can take both exams & earn 2 diff college credits.
*woops - got those backwards. Should've been 39 Micro, 34 Macro scoring 3 or higher.
Death, taxes, and EHS Latin as a dominant force.

92% of AP Latin students scored a 3 or higher, with a majority of those scoring 4 or higher. Another stellar year for @MagisterAdams and his charges, like clockwork.
Over in the Fine Arts world, it was also a great year. Enrollment is obviously not nearly as high as most courses, as these are pretty highly specialized, but students who took AP Music Theory and AP Studio Art: 2D Design each posted 75% rates of 3s or higher.
We'll take a look at AP STEM exams, but first, of note is the wide array of courses offered. In 2017-2018, EHS had students who completed courses and tested in:

Calculus AB
Calculus BC
Statistics
Computer Science A
Biology
Chemistry
Physics 1

Env Sci is coming on board 18-19.
No other high school in this area, certainly in any surrounding county or school district, offers so many AP STEM opportunities as @EHS_Eagles. I doubt very much that any other public high school in GA its size does either.
On the 2018 Calculus AB exam, 79% of students tested scored a 3, 4, or 5, and the vast majority of those students scored 4s and 5s.
Meanwhile, in @ProfessorPoor 's third year of also teaching the monster that is Calculus BC, 10 students scored a 3 or higher. This represented an 83% rate of 3+. Ten is a new EHS high; previous high was 6. College Board gives these students an equivalent AB subscore as well.
HUGE year for AP Statistics students & their teacher @Hornbeck_EHS, as a whopping 48 students scored 3 or higher. Among those were 8 (!!!) 5s and 17 4s. Eight 5s more than doubles the previous high for 5s. Forty-eight at 3+ nearly doubles the previous high, which was set in 2017.
The growth in student achievement in AP Statistics at EHS in recent years is truly astounding.
Very respectable rookie year for AP Computer Science A, as right at half of Mr. Chatfield's students scored 3 or higher on the exam. We're off to a good start here, but I anticipate that we'll see this one take off in terms of growth in the years to come.
In Science, students are more widely dispersed among courses:

Biology did well, as 73% of students scored a 3 or higher. Chemistry, long known as one of the toughest AP courses/exams, had 6 students at 3 or higher. And in Physics, half of the students tested scored 3+.
Oh, how could I forget...the aforementioned Mr. Wisner of APUSH fame also taught 1 class of AP European History last yr. It wasn't a large class, but it was a worthwhile class, as *every single student* who tested brought home a 3, 4, or 5. And two-thirds of those were 4s or 5s.
A few other odds and ends on AP at Eastside HS in 2018 otw...
Indeed. The EHS Class of 2018 answered that challenge and left a legacy, as they set a new all-time school high with 47 AP Scholars.
And in a stunning display of overcoming genetics, Braxton Buff and Creighton Goerner added their names as the 2nd & 3rd sophomores in EHS history to qualify for AP Scholar honors. (😉 @GoernerRandy)
All in all, just a truly incredible year for AP students and teachers at EHS. I am amazed & inspired by their dedication to teaching & learning and being the absolute best they can be. And of course, we look forward to even more continual growth, in keeping with our core values.
There are a number of AP courses at EHS in which I anticipate even more growth and new heights this coming year. I am truly excited about that and look forward to it very much. Stay tuned! #EaglePride #webleedGREEN
