It's at the change between single and dual carriageway with a national speed limit. We will have drivers either itching to overtake as it starts or cutting in at the last second where it ends and they are not going to be watching for people crossing 3/
Look at the state of the crossing point - we're expecting people to use this with those approach speeds. If it wasn't for the anticipation by the driver (a fire brigade chief) the kid on the bike would be dead. 4/ 
If you look either side of the A38, it's residential - the road cuts a community in two and so people crossing (including kids) is entirely predictable. 5/

I've had a look at the casualty data and there have been a very small number of crashes and none involving pedestrians (all car vs car). The conclusion will be that this is a safe crossing. Look #SignMakeItBetter 6/
The fact this sign warns of people walking along the road because of a lack of footways is neither here nor there. The fact is, there is a swathe of land on both sides of the road here and the answer has to be an underpass; 7/
there is enough land to make it an open and easy to use arrangement. The sad fact is nothing will be done because of a lack of injuries. Meanwhile, up the A38 in Derby, Highways England is looking at blowing £200-£250m on making three roundabouts larger. Priorities. 8/End
