It also reminds me of something I've been thinking of a lot: how much easier it is to "show up" and seem like/feel like/be a good friend when you have the extra money to spend
Of course there are cards and calls for practically free but when it comes to flying out to the funeral, sending a care package, hosting the bridal or baby thing, supporting the fundraiser, buying the candles and jewelry, it just really helps to be financially comforable
I could still "show up" and be a good friend if I didn't do this stuff, but it would be a LOT harder. Like I was a pretty lackluster maid of honor at 22 because I was broke, and I'm a great maid of honor these days, and it's not because I'm a better person or love my friends more
All that said, I'm about to have a "virtual happy hour" (which sounds much more fun than a google hangout) with 2 of my long-distance friends, which is free ❤️
