I've talked a lot about uncovering my biggest blind spot since Trump became a serious candidate. It's not that he couldn't get a large contingent of white people to vote for him. It was more that I thought "checks and balances" would actually remove him.
I've come to understand "checks and balances" was always complete bullshit. There is no magic. It's just humans who can choose to do the right thing or not.

This is still where I am. We've all chosen to hang everything on Mueller and the Congressional midterm elections. That's the reckoning we are all racing towards.
I want to be clear on why I say it's a reckoning point. I've also tried to tell people that Trump won't stand down. He will need to be removed. We have seen that no one has the political spine to do that today. But if we sweep the Congressional elections, they might grow one.
That's how we should read the current atmosphere. Those in power are waiting to see if we won't show up so they can continue to push the envelope and destroy our democracy. Or we do show up. If we elect our own power, folks will see that as a mandate to remove Trump.
