Just got an email with the book jacket mock-up for a volume of essays I co-edited with my colleague Richard Ellis. As the subtitle suggests, it's about how presidents have tried to shape the nation's historical memory as a way to explain & lend legitimacy to their policy agendas.
Our current President is not included in the book (it emerged out of a conference held in October 2016), but it still resonates in many ways with our current moment. Thanks to @uvapress for producing such a beautiful cover. Book should be out in early 2019.
It should resonate in interesting ways with this new book that just came out. Our volume includes an essay on Obama by James Kloppenberg. Will be curious to see how @StevenSarson's interpretation of 44 compares and contrasts with Kloppenberg's. amazon.com/Barack-Obama-H…
And thanks to the good folks at SMU's Center for Presidential History (@CPHatSMU) who invited Richard & I to put together this conference. Will never forget watching the final Presidential debate on Oct. 19, 2016 with the presenters in the hotel lobby.
In the interest of space we had to be selective. The essays in the book cover the following presidents: Washington, JQ Adams, Van Buren, Lincoln, TR, Wilson, Hoover, FDR, JFK, Reagan, and Obama.
