The craziest part of ROSEMARY'S BABY is that a man sells his wife to satanists when his career is already doing well enough that he can afford an apartment with CENTRAL PARK VIEWS
The genius of Ira Levin is the villainy of his husbands, here and in STEPFORD. Robots gonna robot, satan gonna Satan. Husbands have no excuse.
I'm watching Rosemary's Baby for the first time in several years, and one of the many things I never noticed about it before is that it mentions Kitty Genovese
adding this movie to the great "nice midwesterner goes east" canon
you can tell the Castevets are Satanists & therefore evil because they think there are Some Problems with the Catholic Church
Perhaps Rosemary's Baby is Great because Polanski saw himself in Guy, discuss
Also far be it from me to tell Satanists how to Satan but if I were picking someone to impregnate with the antichrist I would PROBABLY choose someone who looked like she weighed more than 72 pounds
trust no homeopath
ya got some nice yellow wallpaper in there rosemary
to the department store window designer who made a skunk-themed nativity scene: I love you
I watched Rosemary's Baby for the first time when I was 13, the year I got my first period. For years, I had cramps so bad I couldn't think about anything but the pain. Advil & Midol didn't touch it. & when I mentioned it to my dad he said he didn't want to hear about it...
...because it was too gross: female trouble, the pain of which we do not speak. To me one of the most compelling things about this movie--what felt true to me about it when I was 13--is Rosemary's terrible pain, and the fact that everyone ignores it & just tells her to soldier on
...in this case because doing anything else would apparently jeopardize the wee antichrist. But a Satanic plot fits so well into the world as every woman knew it in 1965 (or 2018): your doctor won't tell you what's going on. Your pain is in your head. Stop complaining.
guy you are just so goddamn insufferable
If Rosemary's Baby took place today Guy would be struggling to get subscribers for his podcast
BOOK CLUB TIME, BUDDIES!
look, if witches could do that Washington would look VERY different right now
Something I forgot about Rosemary's Baby--Ro intitially suspects the coven of wanting her baby for a sacrifice, & this blinds her to the reality that she shares with all mothers in 1966: that her baby was never hers, was put in her by the patriarchy & for it, & she's an incubator
Rosemary's Baby is about giving birth to a boy in 60s America
dear Rosemary's Baby: want to meet for a drink?
work on our protest signs together? read some Emma Goldman?
rly impressed that this movie found time in its schedule to be offensive to the Japanese
