I get shortlisted for at least 90% of the jobs I apply for.

Here are the 5 resume strategies that work for me every single time.

[Not your average resume advice]

1. Knowing the job of a resume

Your application process becomes easier once you understand that a resume only has one job.

-- To SELL you. @OgbeniDipo

Yes, a resume is a marketing tool.

If it doesn't sell you, then forget it.

You won't smell the interview door no matter how solid your skills are or how talented you are.

You are the king, and your resume is your messenger.

It needs to represent you and convey your message properly. @ritapurity

How To Be More Successful In Your Career: Tips And Tricks

Just because there are few opportunities in your career path doesn’t mean you should be contented with where you are. Outlined below are some of the ways you can grow your career.
1.) Learn from the more experienced and qualified employees in the company. This doesn’t necessarily have to be in your line of work. Take time to learn their various jobs and how it is done to broaden your overall skill.

3.) Attend training sessions and classes to grow your knowledge. New technologies and effective strategies are always cropping up.

Many international students enrol for another degree to remain lawful in various countries because they couldn't find a job.

I feel terrible.

It can be very expensive to study again.

Here are 5 ways to avoid this loop:
#1. Mindset

The problem with many students is that they only think about work after they graduate.

They live like we are in the 80s.
In the '80s:

- Education wasn't as common
- Employers wooed students with jobs
- Our parents got jobs before leaving school.

E.g. My dad, in his early 20's, got a job before leaving school. The job came with a brand new official car and a driver.

Do you hate salary negotiations? Here's 1 mindset change that will help in your next job change.

We're afraid of giving out salary expectations because they might say, "No" or the number we give out is too low. Here's how you change that.

#DataScience #Career #Salary
First, never give your salary expectation to a recruiter unless you're working with them to find a role amongst several options. Why?

Companies will go higher for an exceptional candidate and the recruiter will screen you out of the process.
#DataScience #Career #Salary
Start VERY high and follow up with, "And where does that fall in this role's salary band?" If you're making $150K now, ask, "I am looking for $250K. Where does that fall in this role's salary band?"

I have reviewed 100+ resumes of graduates and early career professionals in 2022.

99% of these resumes need massive re-work

Here are 12 common issues I noticed

#1. Resume Length

Most CVs with 4-5 pages have less than 3 years of work experience.

#Employers will only scan your resume for less than 10 seconds

Keep it to one page
#2. Formatting

Many of these CVs are poorly formatted.

- Margins are not concise
- Bullet points are out of order
- Inconsistent font size and style

#AI accuracy is increasing, & its adoption is accelerating daily. The time from imagination to reality in AI has shrunk. What does that mean? @Srikanth explained the rise of AI as an exponential trend at the #NASSCOMXperienceAI. Here are some key takeaways from his keynote. (1/5)
Fundamentally, humans are terrible at understanding exponential trends. We tend to be overly optimistic in the short term and overly pessimistic in the long term. Most of us feel the rise of #AI has been a linear #trend, but soon it will reveal its #exponential nature.(2/5)
The first 50 years of #AI, it was much like a chessboard's first half. Only in the last 10 years or so, have we witnessed the “magic” of the second half of the chessboard with its ripple effects of ever-accelerating change in the AI world. (3/5)

Just curious as to why we’ve updated the lexicon on many topics but
still refer to the fundamental blocks for career development as ‘Soft Skills’?

There’s nothing soft about what will determine the strength or quality of your network & networth.

There’s no softness about your proficiency to influence change in others, society
and relationships.

Definitely nothing soft about what determines your career altitude…

Dear International Students and Graduates,

I will explain why it seems employers don't want to hire you and what you can do better.

#1. You are considered high-risk

Hiring is a risky business.

You are worried employers don't want to hire you, but the employers are afraid you might not be able to perform in the role.
Would you blame the employer?

Maybe not.

A bad hire is essentially time and money wasted.
Employers don't like to go back to the drawing board.

As an int'l graduate in Australia, I got turned back by the reception each time I approached an organisation in person in hopes of finding work.

Here is my mistake and what I did to fix it to land a job.

If you are like me, you wake up one day and approach an organisation in search of a job.

There's nothing wrong what this approach, but it often fails, especially in advanced countries.
So, here's my mistake:

I walk in with my resume and meet the receptionist.

Me: Hello, I am looking for a job within this organisation.

Reception: Oh ok. All positions are advertised online on our website. Please visit the company's website.

Dear Prospective or Current International Student,

You are grossly under-utilising your tuition fees if all you do is to attend classes and wait for exams

Here's how to get the most out of your tuition and

1. Training

Go to your library and find out which training are available for students to attend for free.

Most schools have free sessions.
I started learning #R and #Python at #UQ library

I landed jobs in AU because I could program in #R

Find out which software you need for your role(s), and check if your school run a free training

I will share 8 key insights that were useful in this journey:

1. Clarity of goals

Be clear about what you want from the onset.
Your goal needs to be as clear as water.
It's hard to achieve your goals without clear and pe-defined goals.
Lots of money, time and resources are wasted in the absence of a clear goal.
Know what you want.
2. Upgrade your thinking:

I was in school but hardly thought like a student.

I started planning how to get a job in my first semester, not on graduation day.

Generalist vs specialist software engineers. Which one should you be?
#developer #webdeveloper #webdev #coder #womenintech #career #careeradvice #careerintech
My take is that when you’re starting out in your career, you need to be a generalist. It will allow you to find a job quicker, get into your desired industry easier and you’ll generally have more choices.
As you get more senior in your career, you will need to start thinking about going deep and picking a specific niche.

How long does it take to advance to a software Engineering Manager? My answer below.

#developer #webdeveloper #webdev #coder #womenintech #career #careeradvice #careerintech
#engineeringmanager #management #techlead #leadership #cto #leaddev
While there is no set number of years, generally, 5 - 7 years in a software engineer role is what most engineering managers have before they take on the management path.
Some tech companies put senior engineers on the same level as their engineering managers for this very reason. Engineering management is a linear and alternate career track to software engineering.

I often hear parents saying - we have told him/her that if you are not great in studies, it is okay. We can make you a sportsman/businessman!

My heart sinks when I hear this.
Let's talk about the "sportsman" part of this.
#Thread i
As a child, if you want to take up any sports as a serious persuit in life, you aim for the international stage.
Being in top 5/10 in the world, Olympic medal, representing India at international level, etc.

This would be a reasonable goal for a child (less than 10yr).
Unless you have that kind of ambition / desire / 🔥 in you, professional sports is not really your thing.

An amazing analysis of the current #Ukraine️ #war
@kamilkazani takes us back to Cold War and evolution of Russian war machine based on those weapons/tactics.
Question: Will this op prove to be as much a watershed for #Russianarmy as it was for #UkrainianArmedForces in 2014?
In addition, the entire situation raises further questions
1-As mentioned in the tweet above, would this stimulate transformation of military affairs in the #RussianArmy in particular and #RussianArmedForces forces in general?
Especially considering the points @kamilkazani made?
2-Actually, and retrospectively, this raises more questions. And these questions are based on President #Putin own past career in particular and the post #SovietUnion combat experience of the #RussianArmedForces in general
