So you've got more than one job offer, but how do you choose between them?
Here's a 🧵 of the five things you need to consider them help you pick the right job and company...
#jobs #careeradvice #jobsearch
1) Progression - Which one will make you more employable 2-3 years down the line? Where will you get exposure to the most in-demand technologies? Where will you be given interesting & challenging problems to solve & be pushed out of your comfort zone? Where will you learn more?
2) Package - In which job will you feel "better off" both in terms of money, extra benefits & time? Don't compare the whole package because some things will matter more to you than others. Choose what's important to you and compare the packages on those factors alone.

“I hate my boss! She always expects me to work long hours and sometimes even on the weekends.”

“Well, have you talked to her about it?”

“Umm. No”

This situation probably plays out in every organization in one way or another. A short thread about "managing up!"

2/ While your boss may have multiple stakeholders, priorities, and reportees - taking control of your #career is your responsibility.

A key aspect of doing that well is learning to “manage your boss.” My top 4 tips:

✓ Communicate proactively

✓ Understand the priorities of your boss, the dept, and the organization and align yours accordingly (which #clients need the extra attention, what metrics matter most for the biz, what brings in the revenue, etc)

From rejecting a seven-figure job to building India’s largest platform for financial education,

Here’s the story behind my entrepreneurial journey so far.
I graduated from IIM Indore in 2008 and got placed in JP Morgan. Having a zeal to do something in the #education sector, I didn't take that #job, to start up a new venture of my own.
During that time CAT went online. I started my own venture- FireUp, an e-learning portal for training for #management entrance examinations.

Software tester role is dead, or it is slowly dying in tech companies. Don't get me wrong, I believe that the role of a software tester/QA is truly an important one in the product development lifecycle.
#qa #tester #careerintech #womenintech #career #careeradvice
However, it's so important that it must be done by those who are building the thing (aka developers).

If you're a QA and looking to reinvent yourself, here are a few roles that might be suitable as they share some of the skills & characteristics of a QA.
- Front-end Developer
- Technical Program Manager
- Site Reliability Engineer
- DevOps Engineer

A true #SaturdayMorningHustle key to success is not just focusing on the big items, but the small stuff too. Committing to making every aspect of a business process the best it can be is essential to earning and keeping great clients/customers.
Attention to detail (or lack of) will show how serious you take your business, your audience and the process. Don't mess everything up at the point of conversion by letting those small efforts, small cost details slide. Pay attention and show you care. #SaturdayMorningHustle
It's Saturday, I'm in the office so it must be the #SaturdayMorningHustle. Listen to the podcast while your competition is still sleeping.

Law schools should not limit themselves up to judicial services or corporate. It's high time that litigation and legal journalism should be promoted as a career in the legal arena.

Legal journalism, as a field gives you an opportunity to explore the real world beyond bare acts.
acts. I never thought that I'd be exploring this field, but because of my urge and practice of writing, I landed up here. If you are a law student, please don't settle too early, you have many options to saturate.

For instance if you want to become a judicial officers, then go through the socio-political affairs and observe the root cause closely.

Classrooms should not be confined up to bare acts and text books. Law schools should also focus on other aspects on the table.

1/ #Mentorship 🧵

This woman is my #mentor (pic w perm). Joan W Bennett. She’s in @theNASciences as geneticist & mycologist. Today we are at the Parthenon in Nashville TN where after 35 YEARS, she still provides me council…

#MedTwitter #Sciencetwitter
2/ Dr. Bennett taught me that mentorship is not a job w an endpoint. She assumed this role IN my life FOR life. Today we talked as much about parenting as science. We are in each other’s front row. This is the depth of a true mentor-mentee relationship.
#MedEd @theNAMedicine
3/ Like any relationship, there must be chemistry & connection. If you don’t have that w a “mentor,” maybe you have the wrong person. Build a relationship not a business arrangement. It’s also NOT just a trajectory to promotion. #Mentorship is “whole” person care & development.

I was born in the 1980s, in the suburbs of Divinopolis, a small city in the Minas Gerais state, 🇧🇷 (right in the middle of the country, so, no beaches there). I’m the oldest of 4 children. I was a happy child who could play in the streets and climb trees.

I also watched a lot of 📺and this helped to develop my passion for science. One of my favourite shows was Beakman’s World. I wanted to be a scientist like him. But I had never met any scientist. I wasn’t even sure if this profession really existed in 🇧🇷.

My passion for biology started in high school, because of one very enthusiastic teacher. I’ll never forget my first lab class and she saying: “look at those mitochondria, how beautiful they are!” I decided that I’d be a biologist.

When we rest we often feel guilty. Society values effort, productivity and achievement above everything. But for me resting isn’t doing nothing, it’s an essential part of preparing to do something, and recovering afterwards. It’s how I survive.
1/ Picasso’s painting ‘Rest’ - abstract image of face res
At nursery #school #rest was factored in. We napped on camp beds with scratchy blankets after lunch. Even at primary school we were given the opportunity to lay our heads on our hands on our wooden desks while the teacher read to us. Short interludes in otherwise hectic days.
2/ Black and white photo of children sitting at wooden school d
The thing I remember most about secondary school is rushing. We were always hurrying from one place to another, at risk of being late, but not allowed to run. My only restful moments were in the art room, library and garden, or walking up to the playing fields to do sports.

It has been 104 days from product signup (@AdaloHQ) to Product Hunt, so here are 104 learnings:

1) To start, we had to figure out as a non-technical team how to build a technical product to lower the cost of #career navigation
2) We started Lloyd before the pandemic was the reality it is today, but what has happened in the last year made us even more committed to building a lower cost, quality product. #Nocode was a fast way to keeping costs down to also benefit others

Here’s the thing about meeting people after many many years: they are anchored to a version of you that may no longer define you. They are convinced that you owe it to them to follow-through on your earlier #life plans.

I met an ex-colleague after more than half-a-decade. It was like any such meeting. Fake warmth to masquerade stocktaking about who did better in the lost time. Offering pleasantries only enough to veil judging and pontificating. And then banter.

“Dude, howsoever you want to frame it, you’ve done a #career suicide. I am sure you know it but won’t care to admit.”

“The only thing I know for sure is what I have been able to avoid: suicide by career.”

“Well, at least you’ve still got your defensive reasoning skills.”
