New: Facing congressional pressure to allow independent testing of its voting machines, major vendor ES&S urges lawmakers to investigate "the presence of foreign adversaries" at DEF CON's @VotingVillageDC and similar events.

SSCI members @KamalaHarris, @MarkWarner, @SenatorCollins, and @SenatorLankford asked ES&S to let independent experts test its machines.

In response, ES&S encouraged the senators to ask their IC "contacts" about the dangers of "forums open to anonymous hackers."
Ignoring the bevy of reputable, well-credentialed voting security experts eager to test its machines, ES&S implies that the issue is primarily about opening up its machines to "unvetted, anonymous security researchers."
I asked the four senators who sent the letter what they think of ES&S's response, and whether they will be asking their "contacts" in the intelligence community about the supposed threats posed by events like DEF CON.

I also asked ES&S why they, uh, didn't answer key questions.
"Silly and contrary to all evidence."

"Unacceptable."

Senate Intelligence Committee lawmakers respond after ES&S urges them to investigate @VotingVillageDC as a national security threat.

This appears to be the former White House cyber coordinator and current NSA senior cyber adviser subtweeting ES&S.
ES&S declined to comment on @RGB_Lights's tweet.

"We stand by the previous information we provided regarding our welcoming of and continued use of independent testing ... We remain laser focused on helping our customers conduct secure, safe and accurate elections. "
