It's important that everyone understand why today's news about Don McGahn and yesterday's about Trump wanting to fire Sessions matter: because they're related. Trump is clearing the decks to fire Sessions and try to *end* the Mueller investigation—and he's doing it in plain view.
2/ Trump wants to ensure Mueller never finishes his work; and if he does finish, can't produce a report; and if a report is produced, that it's not published; and if published, not given to Congress; and if given to Congress, ignored.
And he'll fire anyone who stands in his way.

3/ McGahn is being shoved out in the most disrespectful way possible because Trump is livid at him for cooperating with Mueller. This is a longtime pattern: want to know why Trump accused Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower? Because he was afraid Obama knew what had been said there.
4/ The course of obstruction and witness tampering we've seen from Trump is like nothing that I've ever seen in the public square before: blatant, notorious, relentless, and shameless. He senses the walls closing in and he'll burn *everything* down to protect himself—count on it.
5/ McGahn has stopped Trump from firing people; that's why he has to go. He's been honest with Mueller about what he saw and heard in the White House, and he has to go for that reason too. Anyone who knows what Trump actually is and what he really did and isn't 100% loyal *goes*.
PS/ I agree with those White House staffers who say a Sessions firing is inevitable—it's only a question of *when* Trump installs a stooge to shut Mueller down. I worked with accused criminals for many years—Trump's mindset is one I saw in the 0.1% *worst* of those I represented.
