In preparation for Hispanic Heritage Month the ⁦@UNCSchoolofEd⁩ kicked out the Latinx Ed Research Hub. That’s how my school does equity and social justice work!

Meanwhile I receive this announcement from @hri_sig46
Ironically, the Latinx Ed Research Hub was founded on principles of spatial justice.
Meanwhile, NC continues to have one of the fastest growing latinx populations, especially in schools. As just about anyone in @AERASIG_Latinx knows. As does @LocoCravey @JulieWeise @LatinoEdu @django_paris @lipatel @ElCentroHispano
And we have only *one* remaining latinx faculty member. Three others left recently. I posted fliers a year ago asking about this phenomenon. The School kicking out the Latinx Ed Research Hub answers that question for me.
Add this to the #SilentSam monument of hate fiasco on @unc campus at large, and you don't have a great picture of the state's flagship university.
Maybe a little public attention will help? Anyone want to email the Dean of the School of Education? His publicly available email is fouad at unc dot edu
Active scholarship at the Latinx Ed Research Hub includes a forthcoming chapter, at least four presentations at @EdStudiesAESA #aesa2018, another at GMU Women's Studies conference 2018. Not to mention camaraderie, collectives, and mentorship.
TFW you show up to the Latinx Education Research Hub to grab some (communal) books, but the furniture is in the hallway.
Spatial justice, FFS.
And then you scroll down the TL and see this claim of great leadership as a reason to work at the School. Great leadership for whom?
It doesn’t take a randomized control trial to know that having a space for latinx research would have a similar effect.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if I actually had to do a literature review to find scholarly support instead of my TL? The tiniest bit of research would become an avalanche of empirical and theoretical shame for the @UNCSchoolofEd.
The Hub was a space for this kind of collective. Spacial justice acknowledges the role of place in belonging, healing after lifetimes of maneuvering through institutions that marginalize and diminish your existence. It was more than just an office space.
