Here are some facts about the #Amritsar train tragedy:
1. A five foot wall of the railways separates the railway tracks and the empty plot where #dussehra was celebrated.
2. People were watching the Ravana burning from the tracks which are on a height to get a better view.
3. The jora phatak or twin railway crossing is about 400 feet away from the spot where people were standing on the tracks to watch Dussehra.
4. The railway crossing gates were closed and the crossing was manned.
5. Dussehra celebrations were NOT held at this spot last year.
6. The event was organised by Saurabh Mithu Madaan, the son of a Congress municipal corporator. Mithu Madaan is of the Navjot Singh Sidhu group in the Amritsar Municipal Corporation.
7. Congress leader Mithu Madaan who organised the Dussehra celebrations says he did not inform railways.
8. Madaan had only met DCP City Amrik Singh Powar for the organisation of the festivities. Powar says permission was limited to Dussehra ground.
The organiser of the #Dussehra celebrations that led to the #AmritsarTrainAccident Mithu Madaan claims that repeated announcements were made from the stage asking people to step away from the railway tracks but no one bothered.
10. Amritsar mayor Karamjit Rintu says the organisers of the Dussehra function that led to the #AmritsarTrainAccident did not take any permission to hold the function from the municipal corporation. The dhobi ghat ground where the function was held belongs to the Amritsar MC.
