Dear @SyedSaddiq, here's why people are misinterpreting your message:
1. Malay supremacists don't share the narrative of the white supremacists (that youre more familiar w/ perhaps). Here, he won't say that his race is superior, he will only say that his race deserves more
@SyedSaddiq You're
-shedding light on the ills, failures & the dependent/workshy attitude (mengharapkan tawaran, zon selesa) of Malays
-Making a case to prove that Ketuanan has ended (Mana perginya ketuanan.. repetition)
-Saying that there's no need to chant Ketuanan
@SyedSaddiq Thus, your statement has addressed nothing. Why are you making a list, trying to make a case to prove that Ketuanan Melayu has ended? They *KNOW* ketuanan Melayu sudah berakhir. We all do. What they intend to do is recover that lost Ketuanan. That's what their chant is about
@SyedSaddiq You don't need to ask "Mana perginya ketuanan +list" to convince them that they're not superior. That's exactly what they've been saying: "MANA PERGINYA KETUANAN, KITA PERLU REBUT KEMBALI". Ketuanan Melayu sudah berakhir? They nod, but they think it deserves to be reestablished
@SyedSaddiq 2. Your definition of ketuanan may be debatable. The other definition describes:
-the concept underlying social contract
-the position of the Malays in the FC, including its institutions & language. revolvy.com/page/Malay-Age…
-sovereignty, chant against Malayan Union (historic def)
@SyedSaddiq Indeed, for ultra right nationalists, the other definition is also accepted & is proclaimed as proof of superiority. But you can see now how it's impossible to denounce Ketuanan w/out people hearing that as a stance against Article 153. Your mistake is not being aware of this
@SyedSaddiq I might be able to accept any definition depending on context. But this is because I never chanted Ketuanan before. However, your target audience are the people who see Ketuanan as their cause, so you need to understand what Ketuanan means for them, not only for the supremacists
@SyedSaddiq 3. Directionless message. Yes, Ketuanan sudah berakhir, as I've stated, even the supremacists know this; & yes, you said that such rhetoric must end. But what about the ills you've listed @SyedSaddiq ? What are we to do with them?
@SyedSaddiq Note that the ills in your list are the very reason why everyday Malay support & want affirmative action. Not because they feel theyre superior. But because they actually think they need them. & for the supremacist, your list of our reality is the motivation to 'recover Ketuanan'
@SyedSaddiq -I use my words carefully, I never commented on whether it is necessary or not, only how they see it. So far, I've only assessed why people misunderstood your statement, not the value of it, whether it's right or wrong. But if I were to, I'd say that your deduction is inaccurate
@SyedSaddiq When I read your tweet, I see blame being assigned to the lower classes, for something that is not their fault. I disagree with your "lazy dependent Malays" image. But Syed Hussein AlAttas had provided enough rebuttals for that. Sy nak luahkan paling sakit bila baca pasal rempit
@SyedSaddiq None of the rempit friends I know datang dari keluarga mewah. They dont even further their studies. Tak mampu. Memang senang jadi bijak kalau balik rumah ada bapak, ada mak, keluarga harmoni. Kebejatan moral salah mereka? Sebab tak berusaha? Usaha juga bergantung kepada faktor
@SyedSaddiq Even your ability to summon the effort to work hard depends on a superiority of personality. One that a lower middle class & a b40 kid simply don't have. Sebab it depends on who your family members are & what are their economic status. Ini masalahnya bila salah paham moral desert
@SyedSaddiq Orang berjaya sebab social environment, economic status dan IQ/talent. Faktor ini memberi kesan kepada pembentukan karektor mereka. So even your willingness untuk berusaha, is not something u can claim credit for. Berjaya sesorng kdg2 menunjukkan privilege mereka.
@SyedSaddiq Memanglah ada anak nelayan, anak penoreh getah dpt straight As. Tapi mereka masuk Berita Harian sebab benda tu rare. Kalau normal takdelah front page. Jadi katalah saya setuju, sikap melayulah punca mereka miskin & nak merempit, it still reflects something bigger: inequality
@SyedSaddiq What's the median household income by race in Malaysia? Walau sama taraf pendidikan, bangsa mana yg lebih tinggi purata gaji? Kenapa purata financial assets bumi paling rendah?
@SyedSaddiq In fact, the study conducted by Dr Muhammed and Dr Lee, shows that Chinese graduates have a higher probability to get a job compared to a Malay. And even when the qualifications are altered a bit, a 'below average Chinese' is more likely to be favoured against a 'smart malay'
@SyedSaddiq Because of the lazy Malay narrative perhaps? But if you insist that affirmative action by race is unsound, we postpone this disagreement. Let's say that affirmative action, for the sake of argument, should be based on economic class. Even then, u still fail to recognise class gap
@SyedSaddiq It's abhorrent that you look at my rempit friends & think "inilah bukti ketuanan dah berakhir" instead of "ini bukti bahana economic inequality & jurang kelas". You should never have ignored the effects of inequality!! You're a minister!
@SyedSaddiq Dear @SyedSaddiq , never alienate people. Especially when your rival party had always maintained good relations with 'mat rempit'. They're not a disease within our Malay community, they're a symptom, of inequality
@SyedSaddiq If you disagree with my judgment, I would still advice you to read up till number 3. The reason why your message doesn't get through may not be obvious to you or your team @SyedSaddiq . So here's a perspective from a random tweeter.
