[Thread] It's that time of year when we are inundated with CVs for talent looking for a fresh start to the New Year. I am not obsessed with degrees or where you went to school, but here are some tips I can give jobseekers:
1. Don't bcc a potential employer with a generic intro like 'Good day'. If you are keen on working somewhere, the employer wants to feel like the only person in your life. It's like dating. Stroke my ego. 'Hi Mike, I love what you do @retroviral' - reference examples of why
@retroviral 2. ALWAYS check your subject on your mail. A young guy mailed me his CV as a forward of a mail that he sent for an account management job at Ogilvy. Instant opportunity lost. I am not interested in sloppy seconds
@retroviral 3. When you get the opportunity to meet a potential employer - in person - please make sure you've done your research. I met a lady a few weeks ago who didn't even know the name of the agency. There's a reason it's called a 'first impression'. There is a need to impress
@retroviral 4. CVs don't make you stand out. Our mission is to make remarkable content, and to achieve this, we need remarkable people. Show me why you are remarkable. *Spoiler alert* traditional CVs are the least creative way to showcase your creativity
5. Regardless if you're an introvert or an extrovert, passion pays off. You can learn anything about your job thanks to Google but if you *really* want to go after a specific position, show me the fucks you give. Your role is directly proportional to your abundance of given fucks
