Entering tonight's game, Markelle Fultz is shooting 34.6% from the field and averaging 12.3 points and 4.3 assists per 100 possessions when he's on the court with Ben Simmons. When he's on the court without Simmons, he's shooting 45.2% with 19.0 pts, 9.2 assists per 100.
The Sixers, eventually, need to grow Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons' ability to play on the court together. But I'm not sure you can do that until Fultz is back up to near 100% of the Washington Fultz. I'm not sure minutes with Simmons are helping either him or the team right now
Bring Fultz off bench, drop Simmons minutes by 3-4 per, give Fultz every minute at the point guard spot when Simmons is resting, with 5 or so minutes per game with the two of them on the court. That's what I'd do. Maximize good minutes for Fultz, not necessarily the most minutes.
My biggest issue with Fultz starting isn't even the number of minutes he plays with Simmons. It's that you have no ability to control matchups when you use Simmons/Fultz, as the biggest chunk of minutes come against other team's best lineup. Would more selectively hunt matchups.
