Jagadis Chandra Bose developed wireless communication, discovered millimeter length electromagnetic waves and was a pioneer in the field of biophysics.

The receiver that Marconi used to send the first transatlantic wireless signal was invented by Bose.

I trust that it's well known that JC Bose is also considered the father of semiconductors.

Nevill Mott (Nobel Prize 1977): "J.C. Bose was at least 60 years ahead of his time. In fact, he had anticipated the existence of P-type and N-type semiconductors."

Most significantly, JC Bose attempted the creation of science based on Vedantic principles.

JC Bose received 2 patents in UK and 1 in USA (755540).

In the filing of these he was assisted by a wealthy American disciple of #Vivekananda, Sarah Chapman Bull, who, accompanying her Guru on a visit to Calcutta, met the great scientist in 1898.

Sarah Bull donated $4,000 to JC Bose so that he could set up Botanical Laboratory.

Sara was the greatest supporter of #Vivekananda and she left almost her entire estate to the Vedanta Society.

Meanwhile, V. was also to have lasting influence on #Tesla.

Kailāsa temple is one of the greatest architectural marvels of the world since it was carved out of one single rock and also for its sculptural treatment.

So many wonders about it!

How did the architect represent the problem of removal of rock?

What kind of charts were used?
As an engineering and architectural masterpiece, it is without parallel in the world.

It was executed straight from the head with zero margin for error.

Did the architect, Kokasa, use drawings?

It should be in the Top 5 places to visit in the world.
If Maharashtra does not have a tourism promotional campaign around art/architecture masterpieces of the likes of Kailasa Temple of Ellora and Ajanta, it needs to get one.

Today is Jayanti of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, one of the greatest scientists of modern India. However this thread is not about his life per se, I would be focusing more on his work on radio communication, a field where he was a pioneer in many ways.
While JC Bose is more known for his work on plants,his work on radio science is not that much known. Matter of fact while Marconi often gets the credit for Radio, it was Bose who laid the foundation, came up with the original concept and implementation too.
This thread is more a look at Bose's work in radio science. And it would be a bit technical too in places, so please do bear with me here. Of course considering the fact that my Engg Major was in Communication Engg, have a soft corner for this, though in IT now.

Today is the Punya Thithi of Acharya Jagdish Chandra Bose, one of the great Indian scientists of the modern era. One who came up with the concept of radio much before Marconi did. A true polymath, and a selfless genius who gave his all for India.
To call J.C.Bose just a scientist, would however be akin to calling, Leonardo Da Vinci a mere painter, this man was a true polymath, whose genius transcended boundaries.
. What do you say of a man who was a physicist, biologist, and has been named by IEEE as one of the fathers of radio science. A man who was not just a scientist, who discovered that plants too could have feelings, but also wrote science fiction in Bengali.

Today is the Jayanti of Prafulla Chandra Ray, better known as P.C.Ray, father of modern Indian Chemistry, the first Indian to set up a pharma company, and a pioneer of modern chemical industries in India. One of the great Indian scientists of modern era.
But Ray was more than just a mere chemist, he worked actively in the fields of education reforms, employment generation, political advancement too. He was a social reformer, fought against casteism, advocated the use of mother tongue as medium of instruction.
Ray was elected as President of the Bangiya Sahitya Parishad, for his contribution to Bengali language. A man of simplicity who had no worldly possesions, lived in a single room all his life at the University College of Science in Kolkata.
