I've started working on the game about 18 months ago with the first prototypes, art tests first, which looked like this. Then iteration on gameplay concepts. They usually say to do it vice versa, but in Cloudpunk the art style really defines the world.

At first the driving mechanics were very simple, like controlling toy cars on a fixed lane, but I wanted to focus on the verticality of the city and combine full vehicle control ...

... and on-foot exploration. The city itself is one of the main characters in the game, one that you want to get to know.
