has evrybody has there christmas party night yet?

bit of an unsavoury incident at mine last night unfortunately
we were at a venue that i won't name, but it's supposed to be a very nice establishment with quite strict rules on entry
everything was going fine to begin with. great food, great company and great wine!
but then it all took a turn for the worse
next thing you know bertie bassett comes through the door and it's just mayhem. he's smashing glasses, knocking over tables and just being a real jerk.
'i thought this was supposed to be a nice place?' i said to my work colleague,

'but it turns out they let all kinds in!'

Rule 14 of Rules for Revolutionaries hadn’t been written at that time and wouldn’t be written for another 5 years by the team at the heart of @BernieSanders campaign. But there we were living it year on year. Letting Action build process as we moved quickly forward.

#Christmas is a day of remembrance and strengthening family bonds. The border wall behind me cuts those bonds. It disintegrates families seeking inalienable dignity.

It is a monument to bigotry, a piece of physical xenophobia.
The picture is from my trip to Tijuana in August when I spent a few days advising asylum seekers. I am standing on the Mexican side, but technically inside the US.

Here, hope and despair run feverishly as two turbulent rivers, each vying for victory in these roaring rapids.
Tonight, entire families hunker down in a tent city not a hundred yards from where this picture was taken, their futures deliberately made cruelly uncertain, and still our government throws up more walls of bureaucracy designed to break the spirit under a huge "closed" sign.

Last night, I was at a Christmas party, and this nice gentleman struck up a conversation with me. Asked what I do. I told him. He said he works in the Trump administration. He then says: "I vote Republican, but I'm socially liberal." Let's discuss this for a second.
I get that there are folks in D.C. who work in the Trump administration who don't support Trump but want to serve our country capably. I recognize that nuance. I also get there are some conservatives who don't support Trump at all and walk the walk on social equality.
But this gentleman put to me that a) he's a Republican, b) works in the administration, and c) regrettably votes for the GOP, BUT... wants me to know that he's on my side.

That is a summary of the first 90 seconds of our conversation.

Last week a friend asked about my favourite animal, real or fictional.

My brain had an immediate and baffling but Very Me answer:

"The hedgicorn. They're a hedgehog with a unicorn horn. They don't have any magical powers but they're doing their best."
The hedgicorn has never met another of their kind. They don't really know where they came from. They don't mind.

They like quiet. They hide in libraries a lot. They brush up against people's feet that are in there, reading, and try to get bugs or berries from them as treats
The hedgicorn has seen a lot of the world. Kind travelers have picked them up for rides, they have wandered into airports and been given a snuggly spot in an empty overhead compartment. Not everyone sees the hedgicorn but those that do are always kind.
