Some updates on fugitive Proud Boy lawyer Jason Lee Van Dyke (on the lam since 12/21):
1. He was still alive on 12/26, when he filed a "notice of non-participation" (w/ spicy service certificate) in one of his frivolous lawsuits.

2. Per Tom Retzlaff, the threats that led to Van Dyke's bond revocation hearing were (a) "I promise you this motherfucker: If my law career dies, you die with it."
and (b) "You have destroyed my life, and for that offense, you will pay with your own. That’s not a threat. That’s a PROMISE motherfucker."
3. When Judge Waddill issued the bench warrant on 12/21, he specified in the judgment nisi that upon Van Dyke's rearrest, he is to be held without bond.
Something I should point out here: Van Dyke apparently emailed a copy of the "you die with it" threat directly to the state bar's attorneys, one of whom the DA subpoenaed to appear at the revocation hearing. This would have mitigated the problem of relying on a felon's testimony.
Erstwhile Proud Boy and criminal lawyer Jason Lee Van Dyke filed some kind of answer pro se today in the civil case seeking to get him to pay up the $1000 he owes for jumping bail. Nothing new is showing yet on the criminal docket.

Jason Lee Van Dyke is now in the Denton County Jail, and looks likely to remain so until at least Friday morning. Per @daltonlaferney, ADA says arraignment will be held tonight or tomorrow, ... 1/
... but my understanding of the docket is that Judge Waddill won't consider releasing Van Dyke until the hearing on Friday morning at 10:30. 2/2

This afternoon's mugshot of Jason Lee Van Dyke is now out (right). His beard looks a bit grayer than it did in September (left). Understandable, I suppose. But why is he wearing a towel? @popehat
@popehat Shortly after Van Dyke first came to my attention in April 2017, I speculated that he had lied about his criminal history on his application to be a prosecutor. I FOIAed his application, only to learn that there wasn't one. The DA had agreed 1/
to hire Van Dyke based on his resume and interview, and was planning to have him complete and sign the formal application (w/ criminal disclosure) on his first day. The DA then learned more about Van Dyke and rescinded the offer, all before an application had been signed. 2/
What I didn't think to try, but quirky(/sociopathic) felon Tom Retzlaff did, was to check if he had applied on other occasions. Sure enough, he was a serial applicant, and, as I suspected, he lied about his criminal history on applications in 2012, 2013, and twice in 2016. 3/

I had thought that finding his signed false statement about this, contradicted by court records of his arrest for a violent crime, would provide a simple basis for some significant bar discipline, w/o the need for the bar to evaluate any 4/
witnesses' credibility, nor have to authenticate any social media accounts. Little did I know that Van Dyke would go on to email copies of his death threats directly to the state bar's chief disciplinary counsel. 5/5
