/ Here are my top learnings for 2018, which emerged from my annual review process
/ #1 That vulnerability is a growth edge that is always changing, but always there in every moment, if I am willing to look for it
/ #2 That I am a role model that people look up to
/ #3 That I don’t need to explain everything; that I can help people just by listening and asking impartial questions. I don't even always have to help people
/ #4 I shouldn’t commit to projects that I don’t understand and that I have no visibility into
/ #5 Money is energy, and where energy flows, money will follow
/ #6 To respect the power of goals, because they are so powerful that they can maintain momentum and draw energy long after they have outlived their usefulness
/ #7 I can grow better without growing bigger
/ #8 To be comfortable with crying; that crying is beautiful and a superpower that can bring authenticity and vulnerability into any space
/ #9 Budgeting (time, energy, money) is not about restriction, but about freedom and flexibility
/ #10 That the more I resist something, the more energy I feed it and the longer it persists
/ #11 Context is decisive
/ #12 That every experience in life is trying to teach me something, pushing me toward my growth edges
/ #13 Not everything is a difficult prize that needs to be sacrificed and strived for. Many of the most precious things in life are freely given. Life is not stingy. Reality is not selfish
/ #14 Every experience and perception, including the most intense emotion, is constructed rather than triggered. The brain predicts what will happen and begins reacting to that prediction, which gives us the very experience that we expect. External stimuli barely influence us
/ #15 Ignorance is not the opposite of knowledge. Fear is. Ignorance is an open space that can be filled with anything. But fear resists even knowing what it doesn’t know. Because any piece of information can potentially be threatening, it resists all knowledge
/ #16 I treat my body like it’s my enemy. Either I’m getting it to do what I want, or it’s getting me to do what it wants. It’s a zero sum battle over every hour of the day
/ #17 I’ve maxed out what I want to do alone, in isolation, by my own efforts. From here on out I want to invest in working with others, even if it’s messy and uncertain
/ #18 Freedom is not an end in itself. It is a currency you build up to then be able to spend on someone or something that matters
/ These learnings and insights are very precious to me, and I couldn't have identified them without an immersive year-end review. It's just one small part of the process we'll be taking people through this weekend. There's 6 hours left to join us! praxis.fortelabs.co/theannualrevie…
