NT! Yesterday I wrote a thread in response to a tweet sent out by Gen. McCaffrey, which had been brought to my attention by @BearingTruth, in which he voiced his support of banning semi-automatic weapons, stating:
"I have handled firearms my entire life. Hunter. Shooter. Collector. I do support ban on all semi automatic rifles with multiple round clips. Also bump stock weapons. Believe in back ground checks all weapons and waiting period to buy. TOO MANY MURDERS."
I'll preface this by saying that the virulent gun grabbers don't care about using "proper terminology", as they don't care about facts, just feelings. Every statement they make tries to evoke the feeling of fear - of guns themselves, and people who own guns.
There has been some discussion as to the real author of this tweet, based on the fact that he's a retired four start general, and there were things in his tweet that "no general would say *that*", raising doubts as to whether he had authored it or not.
Now, let's look at those points that were brought up. The first is "multiple round clips", with the key word being "clips". The argument here is that no military person would use the word "clips", as the proper word would be "magazines".
I contend that the word "clips" was used because of the small percentage (about 3%) of the population that has had military service, with the vast majority of people who have *not* had military service would understand what "clips" are, but not "magazines".
The next point is "bump stock weapons". Until recently, even though I'm a veteran, I had zero knowledge of what a bump stock was, nor the purpose of one, and so it isn't far from the realm of possibility that he didn't know, either.
The only reason why I *do* know about this device is from the media accounts of them, and the outrage over them that ensued. I think it's a reasonable conclusion that the person who did author this tweet is, or was, in the same position.
And then the ending of the tweet in ALL CAPS!!! which is a "Cher-esque" kind of thing to do. You would think that a retired four star general wouldn't do something such as that because he'd be "mature and measured" in his demeanor, right? You're probably right. But ...
The fact that he did so, shows how virulent the gun grabbers attitude is toward weapons of all types, but especially toward semi-automatic weapons. Now, whether Gen. McCaffrey wrote this, or a staffer, is of no consequence. Zero.
The fact of the matter is, whoever wrote this tweet sent it out on *his* account, under *his* name, to push an agenda, and it is my belief that *he* is totally responsible for the content of the tweet in question, no one else.
Addendum - ICYMI here's a link to the unrolled thread I wrote yesterday. I forgot to include this earlier.
