En route to Austin where we’ll kick off our v3 info session tour tonight at @CapitalFactory

Those who know me know that I actively avoid this type of public speaking or attention.

So why pick a format that makes me so uncomfortable?
From our very first post announcing v1 of @indievc there’s been some misunderstanding of our goals and our model.

As with a lot of new things, many transpose their ideas of what we’re doing to fit their world view or agenda.
And that’s understandable because there’s a lot to improve, fix and shed around how we start, support and scale startups.

And a lot of conventional wisdom that has many assukento have been brought down from the mountain on stone tablets.
But, as this weekend’s piece in the NYTs highlighted in print, and in conversations online, there’s a lot of nuance to this conversation that’s hard to capture in an article or in tweets. nytimes.com/2019/01/11/tec…
I struggled for months to write the copy for our new Indie.vc (yes, I still write all our copy).

I couldn’t shake the feeling that people would continue to read our message through their own filters of biases and conventions.
That online misunderstanding contrasts so starkly with the reaction and understanding I’ve recieved when I can discuss our model and intentions in person.
So, rather than write another post, or an entirely new website, I wanted to meet the Indie-curious where they are and give them a chance to ask questions for themselves about whether our investment model and community is right for them.
There are many paths to starting and scaling a business for ambitious founders despite the current startup scene calcifying around one.

Times are changing. We want to find and work with founders who are excited about accelerating that change.
This week we’re in Austin and Atlanta.

You can check indie.vc to find out if we’re stopping in a city near you.

As uncomfortable as this type of public attention makes me, I’m even more uncomfortable being misunderstood.

Hope to see you down the road...
