One thing one learns invariably while journeying through B-school / Corporate life is how to label your axis in graphs to make the story look good :D

But it appears the Finance Ministry/CEA is not v good at it going by this graph in the 2017-18 Econ-survey

Notice the Y-axis
The motor cycle sale dropped from 1150K to 900K in Nov-Dec 2016 triggered by demonetization, only to rebound again to the trend line starting Feb 2017

Sure, it is a significant drop. But it could have been shown as a small blip by marking your Y-axis from 0 or even 500...
Instead the axis starts at 850, and gives your average innumerate reader the impression that Motorcycles stopped selling in this country in Dec 2016 - a 10% drop visually exaggerated to seem like a catastrophe
Now I can understand @arvindsubraman signing off this graph. As an academic, he probably wanted to visually call out what happened in Dec 2016

But why did the our working politician @arunjaitley approve the choice of the Y-axis labels?
As a politician, the least that he could do is to present a picture that accurately indicates what happened in Dec 2016 - a blip and not a meltdown!
Instead he appears to have let the academic a free hand. Which is great for the classroom. But presents a doomsday story to your average Joe with an IQ of 100-110 who is the likely reader of this survey
