1/16/54 at 11:15 pm on WCBS' "The Late Show.'' Third "aerial western'' (1941) independently produced by Picture Corporation of America, soon to be known as Pine-Thomas Productions after it signed a long-term deal as B picture supplier to Paramount. NY TV debut 11/26/53 on WCBS.
1/16/59 at 1:30 pm on WOR. LaCava's 1932 immigrant drama (with famous Max Steiner score) made its NY TV debut 9/9/56 on Channel 9's "Theatre of Movie Classics,'' hosted by Constance Bennett. Basil Rathbone soon replaced her on this one-season series than ran only on Sundays.
1/16/64 at 2:55 to 4:20 am on WCBS' "Late Late Show II.'' Millionaire Baxter saves Lorre from suicide, then (somehow) dons his clothes for homeless masquerade in Lang's 1936 Depression fantasy, a remake of an Italian film originally announced for John Ford.
1/16/69 at 12:30 pm on WOR. All-girl bandleader Hutton was Betty's sister. The terms "Gay'' and "Gayest'' turn up in a remarkably high percentage of posters for 1940s musicals, but rarely in so alliterative a context.
1/16/74 at 9 pm on "NBC Wednesday Night at the Movies.'' The second of Garson Kanin's 1969 sort-of counter-culture comedies, the only features the thrice Oscar-nominated screenwriter directed after 1941. Neither this nor WHERE IT'S AT is on DVD.
1/16/79 at 1 pm on WOR's "Movie 9.'' After 1948, Pine-Thomas produced more elaborate Technicolor adventures with bigger stars. Foster's 1951 opus made NY TV debut 4/19/64 on Channel 9's "The Big Preview.'' Paramount has retained ownership of, or at least rights to, the later P-Ts
