Book 3: Acting White? Rethinking race in “post-racial” America. By Devon W. Carbado & Mitch Gulati

This is an excellent book about understanding how race plays a role corporate. It is about the US but the thesis fits perfectly in the SA context. I highly recommend it.
Book 4: Reclaiming The Soil by @RosieMotene

This book is written with such authenticity. It chronicles the life is Rosie Motene. It also canvasses a number of important issues pertaining to identity, inter-racial ‘adoption’, religion and connecting with our roots.
Book 5: Miss Behave by @malebosephodi

‘I am a African feminist’

Malebo skillfully combines theory, praxis and lived experience to speak about Black womxnhood in South Africa. This book is important as it is a resource to unlearn the patriarchy and other oppressive systems.
Book 6: all about love by @bellhooks

There are no words to adequately describe how absolutely vital this book is. It validated so many of my experiences and perceptions about love. This is essential reading.

Book 7: When We Speak of Nothing by Olumide Popoola

This book is beautifully written. The story is crafted with a delicate hand that seeks to normalise queerness. A story that resonated. Challenging, poignant and necessary.
Book 8: salvation by bell hooks

‘Love is profoundly political. Our deepest revolution will come when we understand this truth’

Every Black person needs to rest and own a copy of this masterpiece. She starts and ends the book with ‘Love is our hope and our salvation’
Book 9: I want to go home forever edited by Loren B Landau and Tanya Pampalone

This book tells the story of migration within the borders of South Africa as well as outside. It is searingly honest about the politics of belonging, citizenship, and the notion of home.
Book 10: We are displaced by Malala Yousafzai

‘To ‘choose to be displaced. That’s not much of a choice’

This book tells the story of displaced womxn and girls around the world. It beautifully and powerfully captures the intersectional challenges that refugees face.
Book 11: We Are The Ones We Need by @MsSihleBolani

This book starts an important conversation about [non] progress of Black people in corporate South Africa. Through Sihle’s lived experience we get to know about some of the horrors she endured for the sake of leaning a living.
Book 12: We Are No Longer at Ease edited by Busani Ngcaweni and Wandile Ngcawanei

A collection of essays, poetry and mediations about moments of history shaping SA’s young democracy. Some essays were really powerful. This book highlights some of the voice from within.
Book 13: Sister Love: The letters of Audre Lorde and Pat Parker 1974 – 1989 edited by Julie R. Enszer

This book gave me such joy. To encounter Parker and Lorde in their own words is magical. In these pages we get a glimpses of Black Queer solidarity in its fullness.
Book 14: Farewell, my orange by Iwaki Kei

Farewell, my orange by Iwaki Kei

This debut novel is masterfully written. The characters so real that you will fall in love. The writing is magnificent. The imagery tangible and the prose fanciful.
Book 15: Breaking A Rainbow, Building A Nation by Rekgotsofetse Chikane (@Kgotsi22).

This book offers an insight into the nature of youth politics by analysising the various #MustFallMovements. It provides interesting insights about the nature of youth politics.
