This is a really good episode. One point that was mentioned in passing but is no less important is the idea of a pan-legalist Islam in which we determine how we act solely based on legal permissibility.
Islam is much bigger than a code of do and don’t do. It’s a religion of nurturing excellent character development. It’s not enough to know the specifics of the law. There’s a greater backdrop that must also be kept in mind.
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim says in one of his texts “Knowledge is a tribulation.” He said that in reference to the one who has not had their character developed along with their intellectual gains. Such a person is the most dangerous of all because they know how to manipulate the law.
This is about taqwa - that consciousness and present awed awareness of God’s presence and watchfulness over one. Only through taqwa can one truly develop excellent character.
I highly recommend you guys check that episode out. It’s filled with a lot of gems.
