Welp, one of the big takeaways from #PGE new wildfire mitigation plan is: Many more people will likely be impacted by power shutdowns during dangerous fire weather conditions...and not just people in high threat areas mercurynews.com/2019/02/06/big… $PCG
Under last year's power shutdown policy, 570K customers could have been impacted by deenergization event; new plan would widen to 5.4M customers, about a third of #PGE entire system who could be impacted mercurynews.com/2019/02/06/big… $PCG
That increase in affected customers is because in past #PGE refused to shut down transmission lines 70,000 volts or higher because it would impact wider swaths of customers than area in fire danger; but now open to turn off anything up to 500,000-volt line mercurynews.com/2019/02/06/big…
Here’s a table from #PGE wildfire mitigation plan that highlights the company’s main proposals, compared to last year & chances of getting done by next fire season $PCG
The #PGE roadmap also proposes a system hardening of 150 circuit miles in the highest threat areas, compared to 17 circuit miles last year. And 7,100 miles "beyond 2019" This could include undergrounding wires mercurynews.com/2019/02/06/big…
Aside from CPUC reviewing plan, the big question is how will federal judge Alsup view this plan; he noted in court that he would monitor this mitigation plan & use it to determine what criminal probation sanctions #PGE might face before next fire season mercurynews.com/2019/02/06/big…
Yeesh.

About two-thirds of High fire threat areas in state are in #PGE service area
Company estimates more than 1M trees near power lines w potential to grow into or fall into lines
