today i had a burger made of lentils instead of meat & i was like wow this is delicious like i think it might be better than an actual burger which is to say my world has been turned upside down shout out to lentils some might call it a veggie burger but i call it a revelation
so a lot of people responded to this & said I should try the impossible burger, so i went on a trek to find an impossible burger & y’all...this thing took me to another level, it taste *just like meat* but *it’s not meat* how?!? i don’t know how they did this im so glad they did
honestly this is blowing my mind

The framing of the "race vs class" debate that resurfaces on here every few months feels incredibly reductive. It's both. It's those things & more. Racism, capitalism, sexism all engage with one another & have unique material impacts on the how different ppl experience the world.
One can recognize that progressive policy like a jobs guarantee or a living wage or medicare for all are things we should fight for & things that are important while *also* recognizing that those things alone won't close the racial wealth gap. Both of those things can be true.
Acknowledging that white supremacy is an omnipresent fixture in american political life *is not* mutually exclusive from acknowledging how certain universal policies can help black communities which *is not* mutually exclusive from recognizing tht black ppl will *still* be behind

Something I've been thinking about since the hearing yesterday is the way that proximity to people of color is often used as a means of absolving a person of their racism. But proximity, by itself, has never something that inevitably mitigates someone's racist actions or beliefs.
Slaveholders were *proximate* to the ppl they enslaved. People who colonized other countries were *proximate* to indigenous populations. People who work in prisons are *proximate* to the incarnated. It's not just about proximity, it's about the dynamics of power that shape it.
Proximity, at it's best, and when engaged in on equal terms, can certainly be a catalyst towards empathy. But becoming less racist is not an automatic feature of working alongside, living next to, or going to school with someone different than you. That distinction is important.

Any meaningful conversation about reparations absolutely must include space for a public national reckoning w/ what this country has done & continues to do to black ppl. W/o that ppl will keep talking past one another & our sense of what is necessary won't be grounded in history.
It's essential to have a deep, public examination of what chattel slavery, Jim Crow, lynching, redlining, housing/school segregation, mass incarceration, etc have done to the black community. It allows for a more honest conversation about what's necessary to make amends for that.
I operate under no delusion that simply informing more ppl about the history of violence against black ppl is enough by itself. But it's important bc it gives those of good faith a common language, history, & framework upon which to begin a more empirically grounded conversation.

Amadu was born in Sierra Leone, Africa in a very poor nomadic tribe. His father was a Imam at the Masjid. However at the time of his birth he was 'gifted' to his aunt who had no children of her own. Only years later he came to know about his biological parents. (Ali)
Amadu's aunt enrolled Amadu into a school where there were hardly any facilities like desks or fans. Pupils sat on the floor, the textbooks were hard to procure. All this in a country rich with mineral wealth and diamonds. Amadu strived and finished his school. (Ali)

So I know y’all have been screaming that politics and sports don’t mix but I live in Atlanta and the legacy of today’s super bowl will be all the community members who were terrorized and arrested by ICE and Trumps government during their takeover of this city.
