I agree with this. But I’d put the point a different way.
Bodies of this kind claim our attention, and space on platforms such as the BBC, either because they have expertise or because of whom they represent.
If they claim attention on the basis of expertise then - like all experts in court, and for the same reasons - they need to disclose relevant financial interests. Including, obviously, sources of funding.
If they claim attention because they represent certain people/interests, then they need to be clear about who they represent. That can’t be a generic reference to “taxpayers” (I’m looking at you, @the_tpa). Rather, it involves frankness about who they are really accountable to.
In most cases, that will include their funders.
